We Used to come every year for my birthday meal for the last 10 years sometimes even more than one visit and was always pleased with service, food options and general atmosphere with the restaurant.
Wow this restaurant has definitely gone down hill….
We arrived for our booking at 7.30 and the restaurant was empty which was a massive shock to see as it was always very busy.
The menus were badly laminated sheets of paper that has seen better days.
When we ordered the food I had the air conditioning blasting directly on me on full blast so I asked one of the staff members if he can turn it down a bit to which he turned it completely off and then proceeded to bad mouth me to the other staff and then the female member of staff then went over to another customers table who were Spanish and did exactly the same thing as the fist member of staff did…. Bit of advice If you are going to bad mouth a customer just make sure she doesn’t actually understand what you are saying.
When where we were sitting started filling up with more customers it obviously started getting hotter than it was earlier so I said to another member of staff, “feel free to turn the AC back on as I don’t want people suffering because of me” he didn’t understand what I was saying and he cleared the plates away (we had finished the food) and brought us the bill? We were going to order a desert and coffees but after this whole experience I couldn’t wait to leave!
It’s safe to say this experience has 100% put me off returning for next...
Read moreExtremely obnoxious waiter ruined the experience. We've been coming here for 20 years, living just a 5-minute walk away, and have always loved Chameli's. I walked in alone and asked for a table for two as I was waiting for my partner. The restaurant was completely empty, but the waiter, a grey/white-haired Italian man in his 50's with prominent slightly sticking out ears, seated me very close to the only other table.
After waiting for 5 minutes, I moved to a nearby table, feeling it was too cosy by the other diners. When I asked the same waiter if I could order a cheesy garlic bread while waiting, he rudely shouted, "Move." I asked for clarification, but he repeated aggressively, "Move. I didn't sit you there." I pointed out the restaurant was empty and there were no reserved signs, but he continued to shout. I spoke to another waiter with slightly darker grey hair, who directed me back to the rude waiter, who then spoke to him in Italian, pointing at the table.
I waited 20 minutes, and when my partner arrived, she wanted to leave immediately. We decided to wait for the garlic bread, intending not to order mains. The garlic bread arrived, tasteless, so we asked for it to go and paid. When I tried to explain the situation to another staff member, he laughed and said it wasn't his problem.
I am disgusted by this treatment and will be informing my family and friends, who are regular customers. Sad to say I will never be returning after being such a loyal customers for many years - not what...
Read moreSo reasonably priced it's hard to fault the food which lacks finesse (but then again isn't pretending to have it) but is nonetheless tasty and arrives in gargantuan portions (even the starters are the size of large mains). The pizzas are of a very cheesy doughy variety, and very tasty. Order a garlic bread and get an entire garlic bread pizza. The seafood is fresh, but really you MUST come for one of the Paellas, that are only served for lunch service and are a cut above everything else in the restaurant and much else in the area.
Opted for the lobster Paella and was the envy of all other diners. The rice was studded with a whole lobster, prawns, clams and mussels, with more (shelled) mussels and silky squares of octopus lying within the rice. This (the whole dish) will cost you somewhere in the region of €25. Enjoy between 2 with the house white wine. The rice was cooked perfectly and is heavily spiced, we arrived hungry and took great pleasure in finishing the lot, sat at one of the outside tables. Atmosphere is cheerful and uncomplicated. The crowd is mostly British, service a little slow, but you're in Spain after all. Would absolutely return for...
