Unenthusiastically poking at my grey steak in a neighbouring eatery, I looked up to see this restaurant's signage: "El Coquí - When You Are Ready For Something Different", and boy was I? A quick glance at the menu and I knew where we would be eating the following evening. I already knew what I was going to eat before we got there - buffalo cauliflower bites followed by the mac and cheese. Unfortunately, the night we ate, they were out of cauliflower. Bad news for me but good news that their produce is fresh and when it's gone, it's gone. My partner and I shared the sliders to start. They were four succulent, melt in the mouth mini burgers with just the right amount of cheese in brioche buns. Sublime! The mac and cheese was like nothing I have ever tasted before. Twice baked, three cheese heaven with crumbly bacon, peppers and perfectly seasoned. I asked for mine with no mushrooms. It was out of this world. My partner had cachopo - veal stuffed with parma ham and cheese. He devoured it. Julia came out of the kitchen and commented on his healthy appetite. I can tell you that he doesn't eat like that when I cook! Desserts are home made and sounded incredible but we had no room after our shared starter and mains. We had the house red called Temps, it was absolutely delicious. The portions were huge, the restaurant beautifully decorated, and the hosting top class. Matt and Julia were extremely welcoming and very passionate about their little slice of heaven. Matt hosts and Julia cooks. Food is cooked to order but is worth absolutely every minute of wait time. As we waited for our food, Matt told us that they source their meat from Asturias in Northern Spain, where cattle roam freely in lush green mountain pastures and that Julia is a trained sommelier, which is why they have an extensive wine menu. The lady has many strings to her bow. Dinner was rounded off with a complimentary coffee liqueur for himself and a coquito for me. A coquito is a coconut and rum based Puerto Rican drink. Also home made. Also divine. Lastly - the bathroom was the cleanest and most modern I have ever been in on the island of Majorca. We will 100% be back to visit this wonderful establishment. I'm excited to try more of the menu. Thanks Matt and Julia for giving us a...
Read moreBook now! The great reviews piqued our interest and we are SO glad we ventured out. Tucked away off the Carrer de Ramon de Montcada (the hill up from the town centre) behind the Green Man. It is worth looking out for. The food was delicious. Puerto Rican food and latin-influenced selections. We enjoyed the flavours and were helped with our selection of (really good) wine. Beyond good food, the team are a total delight. Friendly, chatty (if you want), funny and great hosts. We wish we had visited earlier so we could have fitted in a second experience. This is not a stuffy place - in fact, some might prefer more a formal setting - it is like eating at a friends'...
Read moreBest food in Santa Ponça 2022! Every dish was full of flavour and so good I went two nights in a row. Relaxed, quiet nook off the road. Staff very friendly. Children can draw on the floor for entertainment. They don’t have a child specific menu, but they do have burgers, chips and mac’n’cheese followed by vanilla ice cream. Dishes come out as they are cooked which means you are not rushed. Large draft beer €3.50 Recommend - cheese and spinach dip and sliders (burger) starter; ribs and fries or Caribbean...
