Grotte del Huécar — Restaurant in Cuenca

This beautiful and well-decorated cave restaurant gives off a cool city vibe in this tiny Spanish town, it is unfortunate that the food and service couldn't match it.

I split three dishes with two friends - the artichoke to start which was buttery smooth, rich in flavour and delicious, certainly the highlight of the meal, the entrecote - well cooked and flavourful but the potato portion was meager and drenched in oil and the burger - this was the dish that harshed the vibe of this who experience for me.

Apparently a competitor for best burger in Spain, we ordered it 'a punto' or medium and we felt it was severely undercooked. When we voiced it to the waiter, we were corrected that this is how it was meant to come. The team did their best to make it up for us by offering us another, more well cooked burger, which we declined. But they went on to take it off the bill altogether, a point of service I truly appreciated.

I had the Blue Grotte cocktail which had me in good spirits and tasted fantastic while my friends had Strawberry Mojitos which they also enjoyed. The cocktails here are great but we also ordered water which never came.

For desert, the creamy pistachio tarta, a perfect way to end our meal. This is likely one of the best eating experiences I have had in Spain and I would recommend a visit...

ESCASO CONTROL DE ALÉRGENOS

Voy a comentar la experiencia que vivimos mi pareja y yo el pasado jueves en este restaurante. Fuimos con bastante ilusión ya que las reseñas y las referencias que teníamos del sitio eran fenomenales. Teníamos varias cosas vistas previamente y una vez nos sentamos el camarero nos atendió con amabilidad, también comentar de antemano que el sitio es precioso y con mucho encanto.

Ahora viene el porqué de esta reseña y de la puntuación. Una vez pedimos, (y tras observar con detenimiento los alérgenos puestos en la carta), se me ocurre (menos mal) preguntarle al camarero si alguno de los platos podría contener cacahuetes (mi pareja es alérgica). Resultó que dos de los platos que habíamos pedido estaban en contacto directo con este alimento al estar fritos en la misma freidora que los platos que llevaban cacahuete (obviamente en la carta no estaba reflejado), pedimos otros platos distintos y el muchacho le preguntó al personal de cocina si estaba todo ok, así supuestamente era. Pasan 20 minutos y aparece el camarero con el plato " torpedo de langostinos" y antes de dejarlo en la mesa nos dice "esto también puede contener cacahuetes". Nuestra cara fue un poema... . Hicimos un nuevo pedido, los dorayakis de rabo de toro y una de las hamburguesas que SUPUESTAMENTE NO CONTENÍAN ESTE ALIMENTO. A la media hora aparece el camarero con estos dos platos, sin la mitad de ingredientes que llevaban en origen: sin bacon, sin pan brioche, sin pistachos.... Nos dio muchísima inseguridad, ya que ninguno de esos ingredientes que habían quitado tenía por qué estar en contacto con cacahuetes. Desde luego no tenían controlado el tema de los alérgenos. No pedimos postre y tras la cuenta y ningún tipo de explicación por parte del personal pagamos y nos fuimos con muy mal...

Very pleasant atmosphere with a view of the hanging houses, cool arrangement of tables and seats on the terrace, nice lighting and music. We didn't have a problem to come without booking. The food was quite good in general. We had ordered the octopus that was probably the best, the tartare of tuna, tomato-mozzarella with sprinkle of dry ham, russian salad, croquetas with truffle mayo that were made of potatoes so not as good as one would expect, and the codillo de cerdo that is quite a dry piece of meat... although typically salty I appreciated it was not to...
