Dining Experience at Divinium in Girona – High-Level Service but an Uneven Culinary Journey
During our recent vacation in Girona, we spontaneously decided to visit the Michelin-listed restaurant Divinium. We were fortunate to get a table despite booking on short notice. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a sleek and elegant design, though the atmosphere felt silent somewhat stiff and minimalist. It’s possible this was an intentional aspect of the experience.
We opted for the smaller tasting menu at €110 per person, as the larger menu (€130) would have taken an additional hour beyond the two hours for the smaller menu. The restaurant also offered a wine pairing for around €70, which we found to be an intriguing option. The visit ended up taking nearly three hours despite choosing the smaller menu.
The service was exceptional, marked by attentiveness and professionalism. The staff ensured our glasses were always filled, the table was cleaned between courses, and small details like folding the napkin when one of us went to the restroom were much appreciated. One small area for improvement would be the clarity of the explanations of the dishes in English, as they were sometimes delivered quickly and weren’t always easy to understand.
As for the food, the dishes were generally interesting and flavorful, with innovative presentations. However, we felt that some dishes lacked that final touch to feel truly complete. One dish, the "Duck with pear," was unfortunately a disappointment for us. It had a strong iron or metallic taste and a grainy texture (it was a type of pâté) that made it inedible for us. The server offered to replace the dish, but we declined. As a kind gesture, we were later served two extra desserts, which we appreciated.
The menu started off very strong, with the brioche bread and the smoked eel being highlights, but it lost some momentum towards the end. None of the desserts stood out as particularly memorable, though they were perfectly acceptable. They did impress with very nice plating and presentation, including an effective use of dry ice.
A very nice touch from the restaurant was that after the meal, we received personalized, gold-colored pamphlets listing all the dishes we had eaten that evening, along with the date and the names of all the staff who worked that night. This was a very stylish and memorable touch that we will truly appreciate.
Despite some inconsistencies in the culinary experience, it was overall an exciting and good experience for the total price of €245 (including food, cava, and sparkling water). We truly appreciated the high level of service and the creative cooking at Divinium, even though there is room for...

Firstly, the staff were very nice smiley lovely people and they gave my dining partner a little stool for her bag just like they do in posh French restaurants so it all seemed legit. But then the food....
My credentials: We have visited many of the top restaurants in the world including several in the top 10 so we know our stuff.
The presentation is bang on, the starters arrived and they looked so pretty! I eagerly scooped up the little fish curled around a cute white sphere with a delicate topping of foam and bunged it into my mouth. That was a mistake. The atrocious combination of flavour was shocking. I didn’t have time to warn my partner against it, her face was now contorting as she tried to swallow this terrible morsel. I couldn’t keep it in my mouth so I spat it out. Not a nice thing to have to do in polite society.
Ok, so a little hitch. Maybe the rest of the dinner would be better. No such luck. I had to immediately spit out the oyster as the sea water jelly was stinging the back of my throat and there was also a large piece of shell in it. I complained to the waiter about the oyster. No problem he said! And promptly brought me another. More highlights of the evening: One dish looked for the world just like a plain roasted parsnip with a bit of bisto gravy dribbled over the top.. but when you placed it in your mouth.. nope, it was just a plain roast parsnip with a bit of brown gravy.
The brown gravy was a constant throughout the meal by the way, drizzled over a blob of slightly over cooked cabbage. Also oozed onto some over cooked pork, ooh and don’t forget the brown gravy by itself as a soup with some little mushrooms floating around.
It was a truly astounding experience. The food was average if...
Read moreThis was our 6th Michelin+ restaurant taster and this was awful. Restaurant almost empty. Over half hour before even served a drink. The autumn menu was overly dominated by fungi (great at first but does nothing else grow in autumn?) And the restaurant seemed to delight in serving very strange components of creatures rather than high quality prime elements exquisitely prepared. Eating cockerel comb (akin to a flip flop but not as tasty) and tuna neck (which quite frankly had the texture of vomit) were the straws that broke the camel's back. My wife and I left before the dessert course feeling distinctly unwell. Spent more time in the WC than normal the following day (to put it politely). We were very much looking forward to our Divinum experience. Sadly we won't be back and sadly couldn't recommend it to anyone else. May be the menu from a different season...
