The food at La Fábrica is really good, BUT…
They seriously need to improve when it comes to food allergies. I went there today, and unfortunately, it ended with me in the hospital for the entire afternoon. I had planned to spend the day exploring Girona, and this was a huge disappointment.

When I ordered, I specifically mentioned that I’m allergic to sesame and all kinds of nuts. I even repeated myself, just to be sure, as mistakes happen in restaurants. The guy at the register was friendly and swapped the bread on my sandwich for plain white bread, which I appreciated. But then they served me a plate with hummus — which is made with tahini, aka sesame paste.

When I brought it up, they insisted there was no sesame in my dish. It became clear they didn’t even know that hummus contains sesame! This is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant. How can you serve food and not know what’s in it?

Making a mistake is one thing, but their attitude was another issue. The owner was present, but never once apologized. I had to ask for a refund — I don’t think they would’ve offered one otherwise. Yes, they called an ambulance, and one of the waitresses was kind, checking on me and asking if I needed anything. But overall, the experience was really disappointing.

People with food allergies trust restaurants with their safety, because for us, allergies can be life-threatening. La Fábrica needs to do better, especially when they make a mistake like this. They need to take accountability, which didn’t happen here. Because of this, I can’t leave a positive review, and I hope this feedback leads to better treatment of customers with allergies in the future.
