We were really looking forward to eat at La Gaia. We had the “Posidonia” menu, which are the new creations, yet we couldn’t switch to the Teneo menu (their favourites for the past 8 years. I mean really, but ok…). When we booked it (online) there was no description or recognisable theme and nobody picked up the phones when I called.
The setting felt like sitting in an airport or an hotel lobby (which it is…). The tables were too far apart, no vibe and just felt sterile.
The service was very attentive but the only atmosphere were the loud Americans.
There were 20+ courses, but we hardly felt satisfied and mostly felt hungry for 3/4th of the dinner. Most dishes were bite size (tiny, and I mean tiny!) and it took about 1hr to get through 10x minuscule (2cm x 2cm) bites . Few dishes lived up to the expectation (artichoke & almond, oyster, beef), but some dishes were just a culinary calamity (the frozen cold granita overpowered the raw prawn taste, the lobster cream was just terrible, and ramen soup was completely out of place, especially since all they talk about are the local ingredients). Very little Spanish tastes or generally recognisable cuisine. The deserts were a total joke - I can’t even be bothered to explain.
The wine paring (intl. one) was just average. The Muga rioja is good, but why serve an off vintage (2018) when a good one (15/16) is barely €25 retail!?). We also had a €70 per glass of champagne and the price wasn’t particularly clear to us when offered, but ok… Anyhow…In the end we paid about €600 and left very underwhelmed and disappointed for the lobby experience.
Zuma next door is a bargain...
Read moreI literally left the restaurant crying tears of joy. As a woman who’s been through a lot in life, AND has weird food intolerances/allergies, dining here was one of the best experiences in my life. At some point in life you start to think “why do I work so hard? When am I going to enjoy life?” So after some health issues, I decided I was going to enjoy life, and that’s what brought me to Ibiza and to La Gaia. I also have weird food intolerances/allergies, which I communicated in advance. I was nervous that my food intolerances/allergies would be an issue. And the staff made me feel safe and at home from the moment I arrived to the moment we left. They adjusted the menu for me and still had each food item be spectacular and delicious. And not once did I feel like they made me wrong or awkward for the accommodations they made for me. (Which is truly opposite for when I’ve eaten at other Michelin starred restaurants). Thank you Amir. Thank you Andres. Thank you Jonathon. Thank you Andrea. Thank you the other guy in the gray suit whose name I can’t remember at the moment. Thank you staff who’s from Portugal and recomended us locations in Portugal. And thank you to the chef for accommodating for how I eat and still making it a spectacular experience. Thank you to the hostess. Thank you all the staff that made this such an exceptional experience. My eyes are tearing up again as I’m writing this. You really made this a memorable experience. And I so do very much appreciate it. 99% of the world doesn’t know what excellence means, however every single person at La Gaia practices excellence as if it’s a way of...
Read moreWe visited La Gaia yesterday. From start to finish the service and atmosphere was outstanding! The experience started with us moving through 3 stations where we watched them prepare our welcome bites. This is not something we have experience in any other high end restaurant. We were then shown to our table. We were celebrating my birthday and every member of staff wished me a happy birthday which was very sweet! Our waiters were attentive and able to give the detail to every course with humour and knowledge -particular thanks to Pedro who made the evening even more special for us by looking after us so well. The food was amazing we ate the Horiztzó tasting menu with accompanied tasting wines. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. They told us that they have recently reopened in a new space within the Ibiza Gran Hotel. It was a lovely simple, elegant room. We were well spaced from other tables and also able to see final preparation of some courses at the table. We had an additional course of a beautiful birthday cake which my husband had organised with the restaurant. Having eaten at many amazing places, we cannot imagine it will be long before La Gaia has a second Michelin star! Thank you to all the team for making our...
