Restaurante Happy Cactus El Cotillo - Vegan Food — Restaurant in La Oliva

Oh my what a find! I only popped in to El Cotillo for a day trip but know I’ll be back just to sample the food again at Happy Cactus. I went for one of the options on the special board and was so happy with my choice of white bean stew in tomato sauce with basmati rice and baked potatoes. For sweet I had a delicious chocolate brownie with the ice cream of the day ( caramel) again absolutely delicious. The restaurant is fitted out with a real cool vibe and has a produce shop also. I think the two girls that run Happy cactus are sisters . One front of house and one rear . The sister who served me was super informative and most of all efficient and happy . Stones throw away from a super little beach with a sheltered cove in the hip town of El Cotillo. if you are a vegan and care this is your home! the owner is female lead and takes your hospitality and well being very serious! being some extra wishes or anything in your mind, she is happy you come to her place and makes you not regret it. wether you choose one of the three main meals, the cakes or the smoothies or even "just" a latte, its delicious, cooked fresh and served with love. when I was surfing in el Cotillo I always had my meals there and it was the best. plus you can pay with card or cash or grab some snacks. I just love it! Now being back in cold Germany makes me mourn the love I experienced in her food, in happy cactus.

Aufgrund der guten Bewertungen waren wir hier zum Abendessen. Geöffnet war der Laden bis 20 Uhr, wir kamen ca. um 18.30 Uhr an. Wir wurden direkt in einem leicht unhöflichen Ton darauf aufmerksam gemacht, dass es nur bis 19 Uhr Essen gibt. Okay soweit noch alles gut :)

Wir gaben also unsere Bestellung auf : 1x veganer Burger mit Beilagensalat + Hummus (12 €) und die geröstete Süßkartoffel mit Wildreis und Beilagensalat + Hummus (15 Euro). Meine Begleitung konnte noch eine Getränkebestellung aufgeben, ich wurde einfach ignoriert. Auch nachdem das Besteck gebracht wurde, hatte ich sie angesprochen, pure Ignoranz..Sie ging direkt zügig Richtung Küche und nahm die Speisekarte weg und ignorierte meinen Wunsch etwas zu trinken. Also bediente ich mich selbst an dem Kühlschrank der im Laden stand.

Der Burger war soweit gut und der Preis war auch meiner Meinung nach gerechtfertigt. Nur dass der Salat nicht einmal angemacht war, fand ich schon etwas traurig und geschmacklos. Öl, Salz, Pfeffer, Zucker und Agavendicksaft standen auf dem Tisch, Essig war nicht zu finden. Bei dem anderen Gericht handelte sich um eine halbe kleine Süßkartoffel die bereits vorgegart war und dann nur noch erwärmt wurde. Mit dem Wildreis dazu war das Gericht sehr trocken. Dazu gab es den geschmacksneutralen Salat.

Mir ist bewusst, dass gerade in dem Bio Bereich, vor allem auf einer Insel wo fast alles importiert werden muss, alles seinen Preis hat. Ich muss sagen, dass dieser Preis nicht gerechtfertigt war. Wenn dann die Qualität vom Essen so schlecht ist, dann ist man zurecht enttäuscht.

Während des Essens wurden wir auch mehrmals beobachtet ob wir schon fertig sind und fühlten uns dadurch unter Druck gesetzt. Sowas geht gar nicht, schließlich will man in Ruhe sein Essen genießen. Wir sind mehr wie enttäuscht und werden diesen Laden sicherlich keinen weiteren...
