Terraza Tasca Villera — Restaurant in La Orotava

The absolute worst. I’m sure this place only has 4 stars because there are no other options on a Tuesday night in October in la Orotava. We were a group of 5 and there was a large table available when we arrived but the waitress sat the couple before us at the large table while there were 4 tables for 2 left empty leaving us to wait without any info about how long it might be. The waitresses might as well have told us to get lost, they were so unfriendly. One literally scowled at us the whole time we were there. The food arrived at all different times (after 40 minutes). The sausage was just a package of hot dogs dumped on to a plate. The peppers padron were actually burnt. The rest was so drenched in grease I think even the salad was fried. Yesterday we had lunch at this restaurant. Already in the evening I didn’t feel well and we skipped dinner. And today me and my husband woke up with food poisoning. I guess in the granny’s mix of fish, mussels and shrimps something was not fresh. (I suppose for mussels).

Sadly this restaurant has a great potential, as we liked 2 other dishes. So i thinking making a smaller menu could be a decision, so you could keep all the ingredients fresh.

Another issue is that they put a kids portion(!) of nuggets for 15 euro (!) in to the bill. And at the next table customers said they didn’t have bread but it was also put on the bill.

So I wish the customers to check the bill and choose the dishes properly. And I wish the restaurant manager to reconsider their policy with more care to health of their customers and not...

We ate here on Valentine's evening. I have been coming to La Orotava for many years and have eaten in a few of the local restaurants, all good. But this one is the best I have tried. The cheese and fig marmalade starter was impressive, I had anchovies, sweet and juicy , offset with a sharp tomato, the perfect foil for the fish. My main was a grilled cuttlefish, cooked perfectly (not easy to get it "just right"). The service was professional and the Listan wine excellent, presented with a degree of theatre, quite right to show the wine the respect it deserves. I will certainly come back to eat here.
