Mancha Mantel, Café & Mezcal — Restaurant in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

I highly recommend any of the tacos we tried and the enchiladas (especially verdes) which were spectacular.

Photo is of owners Belem and Oscar. I include a photo of our bill - it was enough food for six of us (+3 beers) and the only reason we would’ve eaten more was because it was so good we couldn’t stop!

Belem, originally from Mexico, brings authentic Mexican flavors including incredible flavorful (but still relatively mild) peppers — no overly fried cheesy Tex-Mex here. Oscar’s potatoes mojo were a revelation. The sauce was leagues above any other we have tried, and served on tiny bite sized new potatoes.

Our server Rafa was incredibly kind. And we never felt rushed to leave. He was so friendly with the children, especially as they practiced Spanish with him, he made us feel like locals.

I am mexican born and raised, I moved here five years ago and this is the first restaurant I have been to since that genuinely reminded me of home ❤️🇲🇽 I ordered the gringa and had some tinga de pollo tacos 🌮 as well as the sweet tamal 🫔for dessert. Several times I closed my eyes and I could pretend I was back home! As a proud Mexican I cannot recommend this restaurant more if what you want is a genuine mexican food experience! La mera mera The owner being mexican makes a lot of sense, her attention to detail from the food to the decoration is immaculate (down the individual table cloths (“manteles”) which are the ones that you cannot grow up in Mexico without having at some point!) I will definitely be coming back here, and I’m glad I found this little home away...
