In a word… wonderful! Very good location, the aquarium is situated in the capital city of Las Palmas, very close to the harbour. The place is really cean, it looks authentic, one could tell there was much effort put into creating the landscapes and the multiple aquariums. This place is suitable for children all ages, starting with one and ending with 100+ years old. The place is not cramped and it is not crowded, the marine species come in many sizes and shapes (they have a very wide diversity of species), and everyone has enough time to carefully inspect each and every one of them. What is more, we loved the fact that the people who built this aquarium made great efforts when it comes to raising awareness about wastes people throw in the waters and the pollution that affects all life, including the one that is under water. As my husband says, if you don’t live under water, you can’t see the mess that exists there, and I think they really did a good job in pointing out this fact! So cudos to them! Moreover, they have the largest aquarium i’ve ever seen (tbh, i’ve only seen the one they built in the City of Arts and Science, Valencia), and I could tell just from my point of view that they have at least 4 different shark species inside it. Besides the sharks there are other really interesting fish to admire there. So to sum it up: from sharks to seahorses, to corals, jellyfish, tuna, octopus, crabs, lobsters, reproduction of ancient fish skeletons, this place has it all when it comes to under water life (well, most of it, at least…). Moreover, they have an amazing cheesecake at the coffee shop, so i suggest you try it! I loved this tour and i recommend it to everyone visiting gran canaria! It’s something that is going to stick with me and which i will remember with great pleasure...
Read morePoema del Mar is hands down the best aquarium I have ever visited. For 25 euros a person we were a little hesitant, and we only decided the day before that we were actually going to go. We were so glad we did!
The landscaping is absolutely beautiful and so well done, with natural theming throughout. The tanks/enclosures are large, and the welfare of the creatures seems to be top notch.
The layout of the aquarium is fantastic because it's built on a one way circuit, so visitors flow well through it and we never felt congested at all. We got to see everything and not have to worry about missing bits, because the circuit told you which way to go to see everything - this also stops people from walking back in the opposite direction to you and causing crowding.
There is definitely a lot to see, with a wide range of species from different habitats. There is clear information and signage on every enclosure to tell you what species are in the tank/enclosure, their history, distribution, feeding habits etc. The information is displayed in English, Spanish, French and German so is accessible to lots of visitors. I think there are options for more languages too, but these were the ones I remembered. I would suggest that the option to tap the screen to speed them up to see the next species would be a good idea though, to save having to wait to circle through them all.
Most of all we enjoyed the large tropical coral tank that is over several storeys, the giant aquarium with the long panoramic screen, the chameleon tree and the rescued turtles. Would recommend...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an absolute blast at Poema del Mar Aquarium in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria—what a gem! This place is a total underwater adventure, perfect for families, couples, or solo explorers. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by this vibrant jungle vibe that leads into three amazing zones: Jungle, Reef, and Deep Ocean. The highlight? That massive curved glass window in the Deep Sea pool—seriously, it’s one of the biggest in the world, and watching sharks, rays, and colorful fish glide by is mesmerizing! 🦈🌊 The setup is so well done, with clear info screens in English, Spanish, and German explaining the 350+ species, from jellyfish to crocodiles. It’s super easy to follow the path, and I loved the immersive touches like the tunnel where fish swim all around you. The whole place feels clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with a relaxed vibe—perfect for taking your time. I spent about 3 hours here, but you could easily linger longer, especially if you grab a bite at the Nestor restaurant while watching fish swim by! 🐠🍴 At around €27 for adults (cheaper for kids), it’s worth every penny for the variety and wow factor. Plus, it’s right by Las Canteras Beach and easy to reach by bus or car (parking nearby is affordable too). Pro tip: book tickets online to skip the line! Whether you’re a sea life nerd or just want a fun day out, Poema del Mar is a must-do in Las Palmas. Can’t wait to come back!
