I found this restaurant on an app for people with celiac and it was listed as safe for people like myself with symptomatic celiac. Unfortunately I didn’t have a great experience here.
I told the waiter I was celiac, so he told me which items I could order. He seemed very rushed and I didn’t feel like I could ask more questions about cross contamination nor did he offer up any reassurance, so I went with one that seemed pretty safe based on my knowledge. It was the “fit hot bowl” where you elect your protein and carb and get veggies and hummus on the side. I chose that and asked for tofu and quinoa.
When the food arrived it was the Wok, which I had been nervous to order since often stir fried dishes are prepared all on the same grill (where wheat noodles are also prepared for example), so I was worried about cross contamination. I told the waiter it was not the dish I ordered and rather than apologize or be kind, he seemed annoyed and took the food away without a word.
When he returned later with the correct dish, it had pita bread on it, which I was surprised by since he said this item was safe for me to eat and I didn’t recall seeing pita listed. I checked the menu again on my phone and there was no mention of pita. I then checked photos from others who ordered this dish gluten free and I see they got gluten free bread, which is not what I got.
At this point I didn’t say anything because I already didn’t feel particularly cared for or safe. I just took the risk and removed the pita from the plate and ate anything that hadn’t touched the bread. The food was fine.
To make matters worse, I no longer had a fork as it had been taken away with the incorrect dish and had to ask 3 times for a fork, as I kept asking and not receiving one.
To be fair, he seemed rushed and overwhelmed with several tables and being the only server taking orders. I’m sure things slip under those circumstances. But it was really disappointing. Celiac disease is a serious illness - it’s...
Read moreSERVED RAW CHICKEN On arriving, we weren’t given menus and no one came to our table after seating us even though we watched more people being seated and given menus. When we managed to get someone’s attention, we asked what was gluten free. They gave us the allergen menu, which said that almost everything contained gluten. The waitress didn’t bother to mention that many of the dishes can be altered to be gluten free, so it was a very bleak outlook when looking at the allergen menu. This eventually got clarified by asking questions. When the food came, one dish arrived without one of the elements listed on it, so had to be sent back for it to be added. Then, after having eaten half the wok bowl, one of us realised the chicken they had been served was raw. They replaced the dish, but no further measures/gestures were made such as taking it off the bill, given we could’ve been given food poisoning. Cutlery was also dirty, and when we asked for it to be replaced, the replacement was also...
Read moreWe sat inside and were told that they don't offer food. Which was kind of weird as there were 3 other tables eating. All other 10+ tables were not occupied but the waitress insisted that the one we sat on was reserved. No food, so we left.
We walked out and noticed that they also had a terrace and a separate kitchen and we thought maybe the kitchen for outside is different than the inside of the restaurant. As we sat down, we were greeted and told to scan the menu. When we wanted to order, we were told there is no food. AGAIN, more than 5 tables were all eating...
Anyhow, as it turned out no one was able to communicate with us the right information. What they actually meant was there was a breakfast menu and a lunch menu. When they stop serving breakfast, they simply "close" the kitchen. And then tell their clients that they don't service them...
What a weird system. Ask the staff to be nicer, we didn't feel...
