Great for the ambiance, sitting across the plaza from the cathedral, the wine and the french fries that came with our meal were good. Also the servers were nice. Everything else about the food was very poor to bad.
The bread, which we did not order and assumed came with the meal like every other restaurant we've eaten at in Spain (this is not Portugal after all), my wife and I took one bite from just to see what it was like. Pretty much tasteless. Their customers would be better served if they bought their bread at the local Mercadona. Oh, those two bites cost us a euro.
My wife ordered a griddled sirloin with green peppercorn sauce and I the mixed game meats with assorted garnishes. We're still sure which was which. I got a dish with a mediocre pink sauce with a few peppercorns in it. We asked the server about my wife's sauce and we got an indication that there was a mixup but we were never sure whether the sauce was put on the wrong plate or we were given the wrong plates.
The meat on one was thinly sliced, overcooked and had a faint similarity to beef in what flavor it had, which was very little. There were three cuts which were identical. The other plate, had two cuts of identical meats, slightly thicker and not as overcooked. We never determined what it was but neither it, nor the other plate, contained a mixture of meats.
We have had many wonderful meals in Spain, this was not one of them, in fact I would say it clearly...
Read moreThe reason why the place is called 'La Taberna del Obispo' (Bishop's Tavern) is very simple - it is located a few of meters from the Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnación. It is usually a very busy place and sometimes you will need to wait for a table. Prices are affordable and food is good and fresh. You may expect the service to be a little bit slow but if you are looking for a quick bite there are other options around. Staff is very friendly and willing to help. I would strongly recommend visiting the place after dawn when the cathedral is lit. It creates a unique experience especially when you enjoy the food and maybe a drink. But allow yourself some time to sink into the relaxed atmosphere and you will not be dissapointed. There is one thing to be aware of - this is the place frequented by the tourists so expect numerous 'performers' (mostly 'musicians') going through their short acts and asking for 'tokens of appreciation' and also all sorts of people trying to sell you 'souvenirs'. If you are easily annoyed by this type of behaviour or prefer sipping your drink in peace this might not be the best...
Read moreDisclaimer: This is my first time ever giving 1 star to any business. If you’re looking for a restaurant with an amazing view and vibe right by the Cathedral, this place is it. Unfortunately, the service and the food is a complete let down. The staff is extremely confused and slow and there’s a clear lack of communication among them. It is likely that you will end up waiting for unreasonable amounts of time and possibly get the wrong order, as did we. To note that they weren’t very busy. We hoped the food would turn our experience around, but I’m sorry to say, it was not edible. We tried our best to take a few bites of everything but it was so bad that we were forced to waste 95% of what was on the table. we felt so guilty, but there was no other option. We kindly admitted to the server that we did not enjoy the food, he didn’t say much and brought us the bill. We weren’t expecting a discount but it hurt to spend 60 euros on a meal that ended up in the trash. I suggest you go to another of the restaurants in the same area and avoid this one at all cost. This has been the only meal we have not enjoyed during our...
