Ah, Los Mellizos Málaga, the jewel of Andalusian cuisine - if the jewel in question was made of plastic and sold in a discount bin. Where do I even begin with this maritime mirage?
To start, let me share the gastronomic wonder that was their paella. Now, when one is dining a stone's throw away from the Mediterranean Sea, one might naturally expect a paella brimming with fresh, succulent seafood. I must say, the ingenuity of Los Mellizos Málaga did not disappoint. Yes, they've crafted a masterpiece of convenience by fusing the essence of a Maggie Boulogne cube with a delightful cocktail of frozen seafood. A masterstroke, really, when the sea is an exhausting 500 meters away. Who could be bothered to source fresh produce when there's a freezer and stock cubes at hand?
And then, oh joy of joys, the shrimps in garlic sauce. Imagine the surprise on my palate when the anticipated garlicky, shrimpy heaven turned out to be a frolic in a field of soap bubbles. The taste was so authentic, I almost questioned whether I'd mistakenly wandered into the restroom.
Speaking of restrooms, another round of applause for Los Mellizos Málaga. It seems their commitment to minimalism extends beyond their ingredient sourcing. Truly avant-garde, they've decided that soap is superfluous in a seafood restaurant's restroom. I applaud their audacity. Perhaps they believed the soapy shrimp would cover all sanitization needs?
In closing, I must say that the experience at Los Mellizos Málaga was a revelation. So here's a piece of advice to all seafood enthusiasts out there: If you fancy a stroll down Disappointment Lane with a side of soapy shrimp, this place is your culinary Mecca. Just remember to pack your own soap - you'll need it more than you think. And in this establishment, cleanliness is as elusive as the fresh seafood...
Read moreWas searching for a good restaurant that could deliver a quality paella, Mezillos was not the place. Ordered the calamari dishes with a plate of swordfish steak and a seafood mixed paella. Starting with the first order, the calamari was under seasoned, it had a little resistance when chewing it but it was ok, the mini calamari was the better of them two but still under seasoned, for the second dish I specifically ordered the swordfish steak to come with the paella came 15 min before had to sit there and eat it by myself before it went cold while the familly had to wait for the paella, swordfish steak was ok nothing much to it, I think the chef was holding on to the salt like a bag of gold, vegetables was bland and soaked in oil looked like they bought it from the frozen section at mercadona , was not pretty on the plate. Now for the star dish, the paella (46€). Wasnt much to the taste, wasnt any flavours that stood out, just plane tasting paella, think if they added some mussels which it lacked and better stock it could of hightened the flavour in the dish. The price for all this including 4 soft drinks ended up inn little over 100€ just was in my opinion way too much and I would expect a higher quality and standard to these dishes....
Read moreDespite reading unfavorable reviews about the food and service, I decided to give this restaurant a chance, assuming it couldn't be that bad. I arrived for a late lunch around 3 PM and found the restaurant to be very busy. After a 10-minute wait, I was seated and ordered grilled octopus and paella casa. I was informed that the paella would take 20 minutes, but the octopus would be served first. However, after waiting for 30 minutes, I inquired about the paella and was told it would take another 10 minutes due to the busy kitchen. After approximately 20-25 minutes, the paella was finally served, but unfortunately, it was far from satisfactory. The dish was watery, lacked flavor, and the rice was undercooked to the point of being crunchy in parts. Despite my hunger, I could only manage to eat three spoonfuls, mostly shrimp, as the dish was simply unpalatable. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant, especially for solo travelers. It's not worth the money, (paid total 37.50eur), with the paella alone priced at 17 euros. Id go to Los...
