The place looked nice, and had a whimsical decor, so we expected to eat good cake and pastries, but unfortunately that wasn't the case.
We chose two slices of cake and a lemon meringue pie. The portions are generous, and for the price they really can't be otherwise: each slice costs 5.75€, as did the pie. This is the most expensive slice of cake and pie I've had in Madrid. So you can understand my surprise and disappointment when we tasted them and found the cakes were really dry, and on the Oreo cake they had essentially just scraped some icing over it, like butter on toast, so that it was basically just a very dry brownie with some Oreo (or similar) cookie crumbles on top. The chocolate one was better but I wouldn't say it justifies the price. The lemon meringue pie was OK, but I've definitely tasted much better, again it doesn't justify the price. But the Oreo one was just plain bad... I won't say inedible, but let's just say that it's not worth the calories for what you're putting in your mouth. In the end we left quite a bit of everything on the plate.
I really don't like writing reviews like this that might affect (relatively) small businesses, but in this case I feel the prices are much too exaggerated for what they offer, and we left that place feeling like we'd been taken advantage of, and that's not good either. Also, very nearby you can get really good, delicious and professionally made cakes that cost 5.50€ a slice.
Finally, I just want to add that though the service was fine, and they were nice and all, they did take our order and serve us at our table only to immediately say they would close in 15 minutes... So we had no choice but to swallow down what we could and leave our conversation...
Read moreCute, quirky space on a beautiful street near the Prado. We were lured in by the books hanging in the doorway and the attractive space. Coffee was great but the juice was exceptional—well worth the change up from my usual caffeine kick. The shortbread cookies we got were quite delicious. We just stopped by for a quick pick-me-up, so not looking for a larger meal, but we are staying nearby and look forward to breakfast here in the coming days. The empanadas are clearly handmade with love, and look...
Read moreLovely place with friendly service. We could work very comfortably and peacefully with our laptops, and they were very cool and nice about it, unlike other places. We had various kinds of cakes, some toast and gazpacho and everything was delicious. We were looking for exactly a point like this for days and we finally found it here. Very...
