Classic pub reinvented into a craft beer haven in the Barrio de las Letras. The new ownership kept the wooden paneling and retro decor of the tavern originally founded in the 1950´s. But Toño "Chinaski" flipped the concept to craft beer reopening in 2021 with dedicated rotating taps, a hand pump, and ample canned and bottled offerings, while keeping other classic bar options for vermouth, wine or liquor lovers. It offers a relaxed and cozy vibe with DJ sessions, beer events, and the like. The venue can get busy in the evenings. But it is also one the great late night stops in the area where many folks chose to close an evening out, or cap a hospitality work shift nearby. While it does not have a full kitchen operation, it offers notable charcuterie and cheese boards, as well as some surprisingly tasty tamales. Professional, friendly and very easy going staff round up the experience. It definitely has become one of the key spots of the new craft beer scene in Madrid, while keeping the old neighborhood feeling.

I felt like I walked into a top notch Beer café in Gent, Belgium, the decor and the ambience were perfect. Starting with music, I counted over 15 speakers carefully placed so there is music, not loud and overpowered but just right for all clientele to hear great tunes. Beer wise, they simply chose a great selection on tap. In the fridge, dozens of great craft. Compared to other Madrid craft bars, fair prices. The bar staff were ace, we managed many interesting interactions despite neither operating in first languages. I have to say, rarely I find a bar I would buy a house to live close to…… La Maripepa is one!!

We LOVED it here, so much that in our couple of days here in Madrid, we came twice. The bartenders remembered us and even remembered the exact beers we had the day before. The place has a nice homey feel, the food is great. We got the tamales (one of each) and they were great. There were many different beers on tap from across Europe. They even had a beer from our hometown, Seattle!! I was so shocked to see this. I’d highly recommend this place and if it’s not too busy, strike up a good conversation with the people working there. They like the things that are different and special in life.

Really cool bar and usually a really nice vibe but one of the bar men is just very off putting. Approx 180cm, grey hair, surley, rude, especially to female customers, it seems like you're burdening him by ordering a beer in an empty bar. Literally turned to somebody and loudly stated "This is Spain, we speak spanish" because some customers were speaking English amongst themselves. Don't know if he was manstrating or just generally a rude man, but man needs to find a new career if serving customers causes him this much distress. Totally ruins a visit to a really cool bar with a decent selection of local and...

I am traveling alone and saw this place while I walked to the Prado one afternoon and decided to return later when it opened. Even though I spoke very little Spanish and the bartender spoke little English, she was THE NICEST and treated me so well. She let me try and couple of beers before I decided and I ended up loving the beer I finally order (so much I got another). I would recommend this place just based on the service, but the atmosphere was also very nice and the beer was great. It also looked like they had a good selection of tapas. Whenever I return to Madrid, I'll very much attempt to find my way...
