A clerk gave us some business explanation, which we could not fully comprehend from a guest's stand-point, but made a new reservation for us on the spot. However, when we tried to make a payment for the full stay by a 500-euros bill - it was refused. Clerk said that if we will not pay with smaller bills he will not check us in. When I asked him how he could do that despite we had a valid reservation, his response was, literally(!): "What reservation? You do not have any reservation; your reservation has been cancelled an hour ago." In other words, he threatened to throw us out.||||Threatening guests with a valid reservation and means to pay for the stay to throw them out in the middle of the night... If that is not being a scumbag - what is??!||||Anyhow, after some fairly unpleasant conversation we paid 40 euros - all the money we had except 500-euros bill and some change in coins - as a part of payment for the first night and were told that next morning the issue may be resolved by manager.||||Needless to say, we had a rather worrisome night. But next morning the things got worse for us.||||We came to reception willing to pay for the rest of our stay and kindly advised another clerk that we had some "hiccups" checking-in last night and we have only 500-euros bill as a mean of payment, and we can't possibly exchange it anywhere. To which she responded very disdainfully and arrogantly: "So what?" And then she "advised" us to go to the bank to split that bill.||||As we already had an issue of paying by 500-euro bills in other places across Spain, we already knew that there are no options for tourists to have that bill split in that country - neither in banks, nor in shops, nor elsewhere. (When in one of the banks in Barcelona we were told to go to the Bank of Spain to have a bill split - in the local branch of the bank of Spain we were advised by security guard at the entrance door to "make an appointment online first". Needless to say this greatly surprised us: refusing to accept as a mean of payment a bill which is fully recognized as a mean of payment in your country: that should be unlawful - shouldn't it??!) Therefore, we kindly responded that, to the best of our experience, there's nothing we could do, and that she could possibly assist us, her clients? She arrogantly refused to help and commanded "just go to the bank as others do!" ||||As we already knew that this is the fake "solution" which lazy hotel-workers suggest to their clients across Spain, we said that if they do not accept that bill and will not give us a proper change - we are not going to pay. To which a clerk threatened us to call a police. "For what?" - I cried out loud - "for paying you???"||Nevertheless, clerk continued threatening to call a police, and as it was early morning and we did not want to ruin our touristic plans for that day, we went to the currency exchange office and exchanged the whole bill into USDs and back to euros; we lost approx. the amount of a 1-day stay at the hotel, though, but was able to provide a payment with no change.||||The rest of our experience at hotel was OK, but there's no space left here to describe it.||||PS There was another couple ahead of us at reception on the night of our check-in, which, as it appeared, had the same issue with their check-in due to their reservation was cancelled. After all the TERRIBLE experience at the Mora by Mij hotel we are sure their other guests have similar or may be even worse troubles. Beware! Avoid! Pay extra 20$/night and...
Read moreMy hubby and I are from South Africa & decided to visit the Prado Museum today 19th October. After visiting the museum we were caught is the worst storm the roads were flooded almost like crossing a river . Unable to locate a taxi or Uber we found ourselves standing outside this hotel after over half an hr stopping pedestrians and trying to stop taxis I ventured into this hotel . By this time I was close to tears , sopping wet but decided to ask the gentleman at reception to help me . He was an angel from heaven and never thought twice about calling a taxi . He asked us to wait until the taxi arrived . Can u imagine my relief to feel safe again . In a strange country where understanding English from the locals was a challenge . This receptionist helped two total strangers . While we waited I witnessed his angelic manner in which he helped the elderly guests . If I had a choice I would have stayed at this hotel purely for the warmth and hospital . To management I say this ‘guy’ is a keeper . I’ve been staying at the Illunion hotel for almost four days and never had customer service at any level .I would rate them a 2 & your staff at 10 for your receptionist . I’m sorry I didn’t get his name but I’m sure he knows who he is . It was around 4pm 19th October . God bless the staff in...
Read moreHotel Mora has an excellent location. It is a couple of minutes away from the Atocha train station and from there you can get anywhere. The food at the attached restaurant (which deserves its own entry) is plentiful and at very reasonable prices. The lobby was nice and warm, the staff was very courteous. The room I stayed in (a single) was small, it was cozy, the bed was inclined at an angle (a bit uncomfortable) and the mattress was comfy. The bathroom was tiny, diminutive, I have friends and family who wouldn't fit in the shower. The water was plenty hot and the pressure was awesome. One thing though, for some reason a disagreeable smell wafted into the bathroom from the drains or something, and I found that if the bathroom door was left open, you would walk into a funky smelling room. As long as I kept the door closed that wasn't a problem. The pricing was fair, and most everything that I wanted to see in Madrid was within...
