Del Diego Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in Madrid

At first, I couldn’t understand why this bar was so highly rated. I walked in, saw the ordinary-looking bar and nearly walked out!

But then I ordered a vermut rosso, and it was perfect: just the right amount of ice, with an anchovy-filled olive, slightly dirty, beautifully herbaceous and with a perfectly extracted piece of orange rind.

What I also like about the place are the bar snacks. Their tortilla is superb — rivals the Bar Nestor (San Sebastián) tortilla in my book. They also were very generous with serving crackers and nuts, which only encourages you to stay longer.

After a few weeks in Europe living on beer and wine I was jonesing for an old fashioned. Del Diego made mine to order and did a great job. It’s a nice off the Main Street location that feels as much like a whisky bar as someplace in Madrid probably could feel. Bartenders looked and acted the part. The bar itself was a nice long wooden thing with stools. I don’t know all the joints in Madrid but this was just fine for what I needed. Only issue preventing 5 was no large cubes. Seems so easy to pull off yet most places in Europe dont seem to place an importance on that. Heck I have trays of them in my home fridge. Lovely...

tourist friendly!! me and my friend stumbled across this cocktail bar and we were so happy that we did. the service was incredible and all servers went above and beyond to make us comfortable and smile. the drinks were absolutely amazing and very reasonably priced. each drink also came with bar snacks which was an added bonus (crisps and nuts). the interior was beautifully decorated and had an old fashioned but classy feel to it. i would recommend the pink lady, sweet but lovely!! thank you for making our final night in...
