La Violeta — Restaurant in Madrid

We visited La Violeta due to a recommendation from a friend. I thought I didn’t like vermouth until a family member gifted me a bottle a couple months back, and I was hooked. I had no idea vermouth could be so complex. We came here so we could taste a variety of different vermouths to see how much they can range in flavor and quality, and it is a much more convoluted world than I was aware of. The bartenders here were very friendly and they made many suggestions of vermouths to taste, and since it wasn’t busy, they let me taste before ordering a glass. The tapas they serve with the vermouth are solid, ranging from boquerones en vinagre, to chorizo to olives and potato chips. This place is something else! I recommend going here during the vermouth o’clock on Sunday - yes, perhaps you’ll have to stand squeezed between a group of neighbours and chess players, but nothing screams “the vibe” as much as this.
