Restaurante Bar Rodrigo — Restaurant in Madrid

I visited them twice during my trip to Madrid, and both times were outstanding! The food was absolutely delicious, authentic, and the portions were generous – truly excellent value.

What truly made the experience special was the wonderful lady serving me (who might be the owner). Despite my lack of Spanish, she was exceptionally patient, friendly, and helpful. She took the time to clearly explain everything in English, make great food recommendations, and even gave me some fantastic tips for sightseeing around Madrid.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU CAN’T SPEAK SPANISH!! It isn’t a restaurant but more of a bistro dedicated for locals only. Except a super nice female waiter they will not communicate with you in English. The guy serving me became frustrated with me being unable to understand and answer a question in Spanish, attacked me verbally mocking me for speaking English and left the table without serving me anymore after I already had 2 courses. Kind of a bummer because the price-quality ratio is really good and the food is tasty, but I won’t be coming back as I have some...

Pedimos el menú del día (13 €).

De primero tomamos arroz con calamar que estaba muy bueno aunque la ración se quedó algo corta. De segundo, tanto yo como un compañero pedimos emperador y ahí sí que la cantidad fue mínima: un trozo pequeño acompañado de patatas fritas.

Otros dos compañeros pidieron el ragú de ternera y les pusieron tres trozos contados de carne. Había otras opciones como salchichas o croquetas pero no llamaban la atención. En general, los segundos fueron bastante flojos en cuanto a cantidad.

De postre pedí la tarta Rodrigo que elaboran allí y he de decir que estaba muy buena. Aun así tanto yo como mis tres compañeros salimos con hambre.

El trato tampoco ayudó a mejorar la experiencia. Teníamos reserva pero al llegar nos dijeron que no podíamos entrar porque la mesa estaba sucia (es entendible, llegamos 10 minutos antes de la hora que teníamos reservada).

Le comentamos a la camarera que esperábamos fuera mientras tomábamos una cerveza y pareció molestarle. Además, vimos que a otras mesas les pusieron unas almendras como detalle y a nosotros no nos pusieron nada. La actitud fue bastante seca y dio la sensación de que no éramos bienvenidos. Atención pésima.

Quizás pidiendo la paella la experiencia sea distinta, pero por 13 € esperaba salir “comido”.
