Worst Sushi of my life.
Being a native from New York City, I knew I was always spoiled with the variety and quality of sushi that I was getting. I had traveled to many places, and tried many different cuisines in their non-native countries but I never have expected something as bad as this.
I was told by locals that the Sushi scene in Madrid was evolving because of newer and more quality restaurants opening up, so I decided to look for one with good reviews and gave it a try. That was my mistake number 1…
Right when I have arrived, it took a little bit to get seated since they looked busy. While my partner and I were not fluent in Spanish, the way the waiter conveyed the “menu” was quite hard to understand. We were given a QR code to order from in which we were prompt with prices per item as well as what other reviewers have said the weird “buffet” menu. I thought this was a regular sushi joint where you order by rolls/pieces but turned out to be more of an all you can eat buffet. At that point I should’ve left but didn’t. Mistake number 2….
We were told that you must order a drink in order to get the “buffet” so we did just that. The food came and while it looked quite decent at first glance, it wasn’t at all. First, there was SO MUCH RICE. I have tried all you can eat sushi and just your average joe sushi places and even there you were not given that much rice. The rice in itself did not have any flavor as well. Aside from the abundance of rice issue, the fish that they provided was so little and paper thin. My girlfriend picked up the salmon nigiri and we saw that the way they sliced their fish was so thin, that it was almost transparent. The rolls in themselves were horrible as well, especially the tuna and salmon roll. My god it was just rice and seaweed…. Plus a dot of the fish.
Everything from start to finish was bad. Do yourself a favor and go eat somewhere else. There are numerous of better Japanese restaurant that are highly rated, and better reviewed. Trust me, you will not regret skipping this spot.
One of, if not my worst travel food experience in my life. 0/10. If I could give it a 0...
Read moreWent as a English speaking traveler in Madrid. The place looked really cute so we were excited until we saw the confusing menu. Our group knew some spanish but not enough to understand how the "buffet" menu worked. Enough to say ITS CONFUSING. So we asked if there was a waiter that could explain how it worked in English. There was. We decided on the "buffet" menu and were enjoying it until we realized there was a 2 euro penalty for not totally consuming your food. This is in place to prevent food waste (which is wonderful but seems like a fake excuse to charge costumers considering they don't allow you to take home leftovers.) The waiter we asked to explain the system in English NEVER explained this rule. We asked a woman who looked like the manager and spoke English about the leftover rule and she was extremely rude. Basically said we should've known and we needed to finish our food. We then called over the waiter who had explain the system in the first place and told him the problem. He was nicer than the manager and said they would wave the leftover charge for the things we had already ordered.
I really do think the leftover charge is fantastic, if it was implemented correctly. It is literally written on the menu in 5 point font and not explained the costumers who do not fluently speak Spanish. They say it isn't a way for them to make more money but that seems like a total scam to me. Why not allow leftovers to be taken home if you truly cared about having no food waste?
All in all - Cute ambiance, terrible service, and a confusing menu that is more complicated than it...
Read moreVery good! We took our son here for his birthday as he loves California roll ( many restaurants in Madrid only serve California Roll ´style´sushi. We weren´t disappointed. You can choose a la carte or an eat as much as you like menu. On Saturdays this is 20 euros per adult and 10 euros per child. Everything is made fresh but it doesn´t include drinks. A bottle of Cune red wine was great value at 10 euros but soft drinks are about 3.20-50 euros each.
The decor is really nice and the lighting is low - which is a bonus! The toilets are two floors down but there is a (slow) lift right in the middle of the restaurant. Personally if you just fancy ( lots of ) sushi, i would opt for ´ la carte´menu because it is very good value for money but if you want larger plates of fish, chicken or beef - these costs about 9/10 euros so the menu is better value. We loved the tuna and salmon nigiri, we had mountains of california roll. we also had the sirloin steak which was very good. the plain sushi bowl of rice arrived cold and the vegetable udon noodles were very stodgy. But we will definitely be back to try out the other plates....
