Lunch started good, although they only had one beer available it was ok, my friend ordered a white wine which they served quickly. We tried to order 3 things, but they said one of those wasn't available. No pressure, just ordered something else. Once they took our order, 5 minutes later they said one of the items we ordered was sold out. Again, another replacement. Our croquetas de Boletus arrived, those were really good. After that, we waited around 20 minutes, but the tortilla de patatas didn't arrive. We ask one of the waiters(not the one who took our order) and he says oh they didn't order that for you. Ok, so they start working on it but 5 minutes later they say it's sold out and there aren't any more available. We end up getting the duck gyozasz again these were good but once we were done we didn't see any plate coming. We ask about the merluza and they say the same thing. Not ordered and not available. We end up changing to tataki, this one was just ok. Lunch is done and we ask for the check, and there is a charge for "various" for 24 Euros. So besides wasting our time and being slow and running out of everything, they try to charge us extra, they should've gave us a discount considering all the wasted time I had. For the prices they charge, they're definitely not worth it, so I'm obviously not recommending this place to anyone. They night have decent/good food but it's not worth the trouble if everything I'm trying to order is sold out, they make mistakes and they're not even trying to...
Read moreFusion restaurant that demands a high price point but does not deliver on the experience and taste.
Food takes inspiration from Asia (Japan, Korea + China) and maybe Texas so the taste may be unique to some that are unfamiliar with those cuisines.
The dishes seemed like they have been refined and thought was put into them; however, the taste and experience was just mediocre, not terrible but not great.
We had the grilled squid which featured some vegetables stir fried together along with squid ink. Squid was not the freshest and the squid ink was not pronounced enough to make the dish stand out. Stir vegetables did not compliment the dish and felt out of place.
Next we had the dry aged steak. The cut of the meat was lean but the dry age did bring out the flavors of the beef. The steak is served on an extremely hot plate which helps cooks the meet further from raw to medium rare. The sauce was basically texas bbq sauce that is comparable to store bought bbq sauce in the States. They could have defiently elevated the dish by sticking to more traditional Spanish sauces rather than having a mediocre...
Read moreAt the last minute decide to try Txirimiri Ferraz. We arrive at 7.30pm and we are first there. Manage to get a table without a booking, but notice nearly every table is reserved. By 8.10pm every table was full (I recommend reservation). The service is attentive and prompt. The restaurant serves Basque orientated food and it is very good. D had scallops (best she’s ever had apparently), and LINGOTE DE VACA MADURADA which translates in English on the menu to OLD BEEF INGOT. It’s a very good steak with a great jus and the crisp sweet potato fries are excellent. I have grilled artichokes and CAZUELA DE BACALAO (a Basque codfish casserole in a special sauce). The Codfish is lovely, a beautiful piece of fish in the best sauce. It’s served with grilled zucchini and eggplant and some rice. You’ll need that rice to ensure you get every last bit of the sauce. Wine is excellent and well priced. The waitstaff are friendly and attentive. The dining area is nice with a touch of the old in a modern setting. We had a...
