The coffee and shop itself was good. The owner/barista was a bit rude. I ordered a latte and asked for sugar and they said that they don’t offer any sweeteners… which is kind of unheard of for a coffee shop. I’ve never been to a coffee shop that doesn’t have sugar. They also didn’t explain why they don’t offer sweeteners… and the place had other drinks on the menu that contained sweeteners so it didn’t make sense. He also said we could only stay for 1.5 hours which was fair but again most coffee shops don’t do that. I generally felt that the employee wasn’t nice/approachable, however treated other customers with respect. I went to Toma Cafe the day before, the service was great and got to work/drink coffee with sugar no problem. Read moreI never write reviews, but for this special spot, Ricky's UNFLTRD, I have to make an exception.
Initially planned to drink my regular flat white after this spot has been recommened by a couple of other baristas in Madrid. However, I decided to go for the "Double Play" which consists of 1 espresso and 1 cortado made from the same beans. The beans in my case were "Black Sheep" from Manhattan roasters in Rotterdam, which I already came in contact with in Amsterdam. Long story short: The coffee was amazing.
On top of that, the visit itself has been a blast. I was talking to Ricky for more than an hour about beans/roasters/travelling as he is such a welcoming and positive guy. If I would actually live in Madrid, this would most definitely be my go-to café.
Highly recommend it to everybody who loves drinking high-end coffee and meeting...
Read moreAfter throughly assessing Madrid’s top specialty coffee shops (the likes of Hanso, Toma, The Fix, etc.), I happened upon UNFLTRD. We were elated to discover the truest expression of world class coffee in this unpretentious abode off the typically beaten path. Arguably the most underrated and certainly the most beautiful coffee available in this city, boasting an exclusive curation of Manhattan coffee roasters (based in Rotterdam) and led by Ricky, a humble, passionate forerunner in the Madrid coffee scene. This shop should be on top of the list for any coffee zealots visiting Madrid, and definitely a top choice for locals who wish to develop their palate for the most complex beverage...
