I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and express how fantastic our experience at Bar La Kata was. The service was fantastic and friendly, and the food was superb. I was attending a conference at the Palau de Congressos in Palma, and some colleagues and I were looking for a neighborhood restaurant to meet at after our conference activities ended. I messaged the restaurant owners through Google messaging, which put me to a direct line of contact with them and allowed me to make a reservation for 13 people. More people ended up showing up than expected and we had a party with nearly 30 people instead of 13. The restaurant and the staff was more than accommodating and willing to help us enjoy the evening.
They began by bringing us a little potato and sausage appetizer on the house before we ordered. We learned that the chef had been an employee of some of the finer dining locations in Mallorca, but left to start their own restaurant. The food we ordered was excellent both in quality, value, and flavor. We ordered paellas (seafood and vegetarian), among other dishes, which were the highlight. During my conference in Palma, I tried other, more expensive paellas at different restaurants, but this was by far the tastiest and most generous. We also enjoyed several of their wine options which were delicious and affordable.
Later that week, my wife and I went back to visit and had a similar quality experience. This time, we started with patatas bravas before enjoying more paella, which were excellent. You can find variations of patatas everywhere, but this was something special. The owners explained to us that to make their version, the potatoes are prepared over 24 hours in advance, sliced thin, and cooked several times which created a totally unique take on a common dish.
