Semplice. Trattoria Italiana — Restaurant in Pontevedra

It is not often I feel compelled to leave a review, but what a gift to return to Pontevedra to see this place has opened. From the moment you enter, to walking out the door, every moment in this trattoria feels intentional. The service was warm and bright, the interior felt light and inviting. We started the meal with carpaccio and ensalada latina. The carpaccio was the best I’ve ever had, I could easily eat this plate for lunch day after day. You can tell they give great attention to the quality of the ingredients which naturally elevates each dish. This is immediately apparent in the basket of bread and grissini that is placed on the table. For the main plate I had the gnocchi alla calabrese. A simple dish of classic flavors, much as the restaurant’s name suggests, but something happens between the sourcing of ingredients and their preparation that spins magic on the plate. I loved my visit to ‘Semplice.’ so much, I ended up visiting twice on my short trip!

The restaurant itself is clean, traditional and cosy, with welcoming staff and a real family vibe.

The menu has vegan options, as well as the chef being able to veganise other menu items upon request - which was a really nice touch.

I started with some bread and taralli on both my visits, which was delicious. For my main on my first visit i opted for ‘orecchiette alla pugliese’ with turnip greens and soy mince. I honestly wish I could eat this dish on a weekly basis back in London!

On my second visit, I decided to try the ‘seitan scaloppine’. The seitan was cooked really nicely, and the sauce was bursting with flavour! This was accompanied by marinated chunks of aubergine.

Semplice is simply excellent. I have dined here a few times and I was always baffled on how tasty every dish was. From texture to flavor, there was not a single dish that didn’t made me feel overwhelmed with its taste. I always heard wonders from real Italian food but only now I understand the fuss about it.
