No restaurant-snobs here, but we're very surprised at all the good reviews this place has garnered. Our experience was rather different.
To start off, we were greeted with visible reluctance to clear a table for us (two adults, two kids), as if the (presumable) owner and waiter were weary of customers (I promise the kids were well-behaved, so that wasn't it ;)). This weary attitude was consistently present during our visit, despite friendliness on our part.
This was followed by minor transgressions, like beer served in a water glass (the straight glass had "water" printed on it, as if to bully my beer, lol). Meanwhile, the setting was just loveless, with very dusty decorations on the wall next to which you're eating, Christmas-themed tablecloth on January 8th, tap not working in the bathroom, two lights broken in the bathroom, floor in dining area looks like it hasn't been mopped in days, different laminate used to patch up the floor, etc. -Again, none of these are major issues in itself, but they oozed disinterest toward the business and the costumer.
We still had high hopes that the main courses would be redeeming. Alas, our 'rice and fish in broth' for two was really bland, and the huge prawns were not cleaned of their very big and very full poop chutes -fine for me for smaller prawns, but off-putting when you're dealing with sizable and very gritty (you could tell they're bottom feeders) veins. The chicken and fries for the kids (only one option for kids, so perhaps they just really don't like kids?) consisted of dry chicken breast fillet and pale, greasy fries.
I will say that the portions were generous for the price. But yeah, it wasn't for us -hope you have a better experience if you...
Read moreWe were on a hiking vacation in Puerto de la Cruz and came across this gem of a restaurant. An absolute recommendation for Puerto Cruz, probably one of the best restaurants there. Situated opposite Hotel Turquesa Playa, 500m(7 minutes walk) from Puerto Cruz Bus station. Their fish soup is (for me) the best in Tenerife. From outside looks very normal, but inside it is nicely decorated, very neat and clean. They offer highest quality local Tenerife food for reasonable price. Owner Gregorio and his team are very attentive and friendly, one feels at home here. They have a great 4-5 course "Night Menu" for €15,50 where one can choose a "soup of the day" - mostly its a fish soup. This Menu is a steal! Another great offer is their 7-8 course "Salt Fish" menu for €22. It includes 4 appetizers, fish cooked in a coat of salt(canarian potatoes as side dish), wine, dessert and coffee -another absolute steal, great food for reasonable price. "Salt Fish" is a special Canarian Dish. Watching Gregorio serve the cooked fish embedded in salt is a great experience :). I tried both of these menus (and some others), and they were all superb! We observed many times that we got food we didnt order, and it was also not charged. Gregorio is really a nice guy, always trying to take good care of his guests. They also offer many other local Canarian food "a la karte" (from normal menu). If you are looking to avoid "Tourist Traps", and wanna enjoy some high quality local food — this is the place you wanna go. Give it a try, you...
Read moreAbsolutely recommended! Don't get mislead by the environment and the outer appearance! As soon as you enter inside, everything will look very different. Nicely arranged tables with fabric napkins and a warm welcome from the very friendly and attentive waiter are waiting for you. We had the menu with fish in salt crust and it was fantastic. Before we started, we've been shown the fresh fish, a nice big sea bass. Then, four different starters from shrimps in garlic oil to grilled pimentos, garlic bread, mojo picon and so on. The fish was delicious and came with potatoes and a another brilliant sauce. More than this, wine, desert and a coffee were included, everything for a little more than 45 euro for two persons! Thank you so much! We will...
