After having lived in Tenerife for close to 20 years and tried many restaurants in Puerto, my wife and I thought we'd give Rincón del Mar another try as we had good memories of the place. We were keen to try the fish stew (cazuela) as it is the house speciality and so asked what seafood it contained, to which the waiter/owner told us we had to try it to believe it. OK, great. But please tell us what's in it. However, all he told us was that it had a bit of cherne (a local fish) but that he really didn't want to tell us as we wouldn't understand what it is. Then he said that this always happens with the Spanish (my wife is Spanish and the whole conversation was in the waiter/owner's mother tongue) asking what they are going to eat and left the table saying "Dios mío ", roughly tranlated as "oh my God" at the cheek of asking for information about the food we were going to order and then eat. We drank the drinks we ordered and then left, thanking our lucky stars that we probably dodged a...
Read moreI've eaten in restaurants all over the world, and I don't usually post reviews on Google, I only do it when it's bad.
the waiter pretends to speak English, when in fact he is stammering one dish from the menu and you have to show him everything with your finger. Then he further commented that we don't speak English (because among ourselves we spoke in our native language when the waiter was off the table 🤦🏻♀️). 2) The waiter became obnoxious and reacted very strangely when we did not choose the dish he recommended. 3) I understand the culture here and the lack of haste, but we only found out about the fact that the drink I ordered was not available because my husband asked for it in the middle of the wait for main course 🤦🏻♀️. 4) They don't serve any hand wipes to clean your hands with the prawns, and the WC are dirty.
I recommend only if you want to make your day worse. We ordered 3 dishes and they were average quality, the service...
Read moreNice food. Terrible service. Visited here two days ago. For some reason the owner seemed to take a dislike to us. Maybe as we were English? Was very rude with us and we recieved very poor service. We have limited Spanish, but tried our best with it, don't know if that's what annoyed him? We ordered Paella not the house special that he recommended, don't know if that's what annoyed him? We could see him being jolly and laughing with the other patrons, but very cold with us. Paella itself was very tasty. I ordered some Bread and Aioli to come with it, this was ignored and never came, don't know if ordering this is what annoyed him? Pudding looked nice but as he was clearing our dinner plates and we tried to ask about it he ignored us and spoke over our heads to another table, so we didn't end up getting any. Definitely would not recommend unless you want to get made to...
