Marlin Restaurant — Restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz

What a shame. I never leave a poor review but this place really let themselves down. I chatted to the waiter and then to the manager (potentially owner) but no real response..

Firstly... The location is incredible. Worth the visit just for that.

The starters.. great.. prawn cocktail and calamari.. tasty.

Mains.. prawn linguine & cod ratatouille - great. The cod especially was beautifully cooked, meaty and full of flavour.

But.. (and there's a couple of biggies here) my mum had the lobster thermidor and it was over cooked.. not just slightly but completely... Now an error on our part was not to raise it immediately... But we actually didn't see our server.. the lobster came out 10 mins after the other mains... Our plates then didn't get cleared until 20 mins after we'd finished...

I raised it with our waiter but no response. I then raised it with the manager (after we'd paid) but he didn't care. It was a real shame.

It was a really disappointing end to what should have been an incredible dinner in an equally incredible setting.

I'd go back though, but not...

During our visit, we were shocked by the horrendous welcome we received. We arrived a few minutes early, at 12:01, and although the restaurant was already open according to its online information, we encountered an unfriendly attitude. The waiter, who claimed to be the manager, arrogantly explained a whole series of arguments why we couldn't sit at the prepared terrace and calmly wait for our 12:30 reservation with an aperitif.

We were repeatedly emphasized that we must arrive exactly at the time of our reservation, which was in stark contrast to how other guests without reservations were being seated without any problems. This approach was very frustrating and forced us to look for another place to eat.

I do not envy the owner of the restaurant for having such a person on their team. Although we had heard praises about the quality of the food, the experience with customer service was absolutely unacceptable. This review serves as a warning – even excellent food cannot replace missing hospitality and...

Big disapointment, and first time on Tenerife (we were in about 10-12 restaurant already)we didnt leave a tip. We were about 12:30 pm, so the restaurant was open about 30min. Waiter stoped us when we take a seat, and told us that without reservation we can't stay(almost all tables was free, anywhere we can't see the sign of reservation). After few second he told us that we can stay but only to 2 pm. We wanted to eat only quick tapas and continue our walk, so we agreed. For waiter we were waiting about 15min to place our order, we had the impression that he avoided our table, next we get a burnt bread with aioli after 15-20min, and at the end, for our tapas set we were waiting about 50min after ordering. Finally we have to eat all food in about 15min because we get it at 1:40 pm. I dont know it is normal situation, maybe we were unlucky or they had bad day, but we can't recommend that place. 2 stars only because food...
