I came to Ronda very late and wanted to eat close to my hotel, especially as it was raining. Jerez seemed a good bet, but I wish I hadn't.
Plus points: the main course was delicious: oxtail sausage wrapped in mushroom pate wrapped in filo pastry, a red wine and almond sauce, sauté pots and pickled red cabbage. Amazing. Wine also very good, a local red. No complaints on quality.
Minuses: service was fast and off hand. I was seated on a table away from the other guests, as if punished for eating alone. I should gave objected there. I was given an unclear menu full of pictures of food. Any restaurant that advertises it's wares with pictures does not fill me with confidence. I explained I did not understand the menu and asked fir the real one. I was given the menu of the day. Again, I asked for the real menu, with 'entradas' and 'carne' on it. Reluctantly I was given the a la carte, which I was able to interpret perfectly well. The waiter hung on my shoulder until I told him to go away while I chose my food.
The first course was a plate on Andalucian cheese. It was enormous. I love cheese, but 8 wedges was a ridiculous amount.
I ate begrudgingly. The staff cheered up once I congratulated the chef and expressed an interest in the wine and their method of preserving the Iberian ham, but the damage was done. They treated me with scant respect and assumed I was a run-of-the-mill tourist. Fair is fair, though, I was under the impression it was a...
Read moreHad a really good meal here tonight. It was one of the few restaurants open for dinner on this Sunday of a holiday weekend and the place was packed. The staff did a great job keeping up, our orders were taken quickly, food delivered timely and as requested, payment collected when we were ready.
And the food was pretty darn good. I had one of the best dishes so far in two weeks travelling around Andalusia - the Carrillada Iberica (pork cheeks) were succulent, tender, in a delicious gravy, served with perfect, homemade thin chips. My partner had Boquerones Rellenos (fried stuffed anchovies) which he was very happy with. The bread rolls were fresh and delicious. The only mediocre bit was our shared main of Spaghetti Bolognese. It was a generous portion but needed about twice as much sauce. The fresh pasta was good but the sauce very pedestrian and under seasoned. Perhaps it’s a mistake to order pasta in a Spanish restaurant but it was included in the recommended selections pages of the menu, as were our other two dishes. Overall though, a very nice meal, a good experience in a...
Read moreI sat down at a table and waited for 10 minutes before anyone came and took my order. The waiters definitely knew I was sitting there. When a waiter eventually came to my table I thought I would order something I could eat quick because I just wanted out of there. So I ordered a plate of soup and bread. What I received, after waiting for another 10-15 minutes, was a small plate of thin soup and a small piece of dry bread. The bill came to €8 .Totally ripped off.Waiters were totally ignorant.Definitely would not recommend and will definitely never use again if I ever happen to visit Ronda again. This place...
