Les Barques — Restaurant in Salou

Terrible service along with mediocre food! I was extremely excited about going to this place. However, the excitement turned into a bitter sweet feeling. First of all, the restaurant was not busy, maybe 75% or so. When the waiter brought the menu, he didn’t explain the different alternatives of paella or other dishes. He just throw two pieces of paper with what it seemed to be a menu. Secondly, he brought the drinks but the bread was MIA! The most upsetting part was that the table next to mine has the bread, the drinks, the chit chat with the server. So, I realized that they treat you differently if you are a regular customer vs a first timer. This lack of professionalism is outrageous ! I asked the server twice to bring me the bread and he disregarded my request. By the way, I speak fluent Spanish, so it wasn’t a matter of language barrier. The food was ok, nothing special. The calamar a las brasas was salty and the paella mixta was dry. I also order púlpitos a las brasas and gambas al ajillo. Both dishes were acceptable but nothing crazy. Anyways, will I go back? No. The experience was very upsetting and I hate when you are treated differently than others. When we mentioned the manager about the poor service and the bread situation, he just replied telling me that they were too busy! So, I guess you are in the wrong business my friend. As a mixed heritage family we did not get great service, even if this was an unconscious biases, it was noticeable to our group.

Several dishes were delivered to the table in the wrong order (mains before starter) and even spending close to several hundred, as a group we felt rushed and unwelcome.

The food was generally well cooked, however, we noticed that several other diners were treated differently and had different sides and service.

If the pricing had been more in line with the general service and quality of food maybe more can be forgiven, but for mid tier pricing (4 x people = 160) I can and need more then this!

Went the other day for food and drink in the afternoon on a sunny day. The place was dead but, about 3 male staff wandering around. Got acknowledged eventually for a drink but with zero charisma or interest. A long while later we asked for a menu... Waiter looked bored and fed up that we were there with no sense of welcoming. Sat there with our menus for about 45 mins and nobody came over to ask what we would like to eat from the menu or if we'd like another drink etc. We just got up and left. You would think they would want to have your business? Nope. Awful service. Go to one of the many other much more friendlier restaurants...
