Calma café — Restaurant in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

1/2 I have to update my review after the last visit August 25. Things have changed and I never thought my favourite café could GET EVEN BETTER!!! I am of course talking about my new obsession VEGAN WAFFLES with fruit and agave syrup. Light and fluffy loaded with fresh fresh fruit. I had the delicious tofu scramble on toast and the spinach smoothie himself had a mango smoothie the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. I remember the look on his face with the first bite, the look you get when you are eating the freshest of ingredients. Then I ordered the vegan waffles to be honest I was thinking I wouldn't be able to finish it... Until I tasted them. It was almost a religious experience I insisted himself try them too and he totally agreed with me. They lasted about 90sec, the texture of the waffle is perfect crispy, fluffy and not overly sweet and the fresh fruit just topped it off and brought it all together. I love this place and there's a couple of new staff members who just "fit in" like they've always been there. Unfortunately I don't remember their names but the service was excellent, friendly and not intrusive in any way. I have to admit my bias here, we've been visiting Calma Café for a few years now. I've travelled a bit and this is in the top 5 of my friendliest and professionally run establishment. Great staff, great ethos and great value for money. You will be pressed to find better value in Maspalomas. On a side note the café closes at 14.00 not 16.00 as was the case before. I had the avocado and quinoa salad and a side of roasted garlic potatoes. The dip with the potatoes wasn't vegan so I asked for a small side of hummus, the best hummus I've eaten and I've eaten a lot of it 😄. The vibe is very relaxed, the service is excellent, the cafe is small with outdoor seating open from 09.00-16.00 If you're looking for a good value breakfast/lunch with good coffee this place is for you. So do you and your taste buds a huge flavour and go here. I walked for a long time to get to this place following the reviews. The greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment. When I arrived, I politely asked if there was a place to sit. They asked me to wait, saying the table was free, and told me to sit down. They mentioned they only needed to clean the table while I was sitting. The waitress got angry, telling me next time to wait for the table to be cleaned before sitting down. I asked if I should stand for now, and she told me with a sullen face to continue sitting while she cleared the table. After over 10 minutes, I was completely ignored by the staff. No one approached me, and they ignored my existence until I just got up and left. They didn't really care either. A place that does not care about its customers and behaves condescendingly does not deserve a 5-star rating.

If your in Maspalomas, no visit is complete untill you've been to this charming eatery!

For the two weeks my husband and i were on the island, we stopped for breakfast at this place almost everyday.

Open 6 days a week, untill 2pm, we found it the perfect way to start our day, on the Island, taking in the sunshine, and excellent food ( try the Chicken Pesto sandwhiches ; DELICIOUS).

As a foodie, and home baker, i can confidently say the Cinnamon rolls are too DIE for, so get your order in when you arrive, lest you face the dissapointment of them selling out.

By the end of the trip, we were confirmed regulars, with a fully stamped loyalty card and FREE Cinnamon bun to boot!.
