We decided to try Romeo based on its high reviews, but honestly, we couldn’t quite see the hype. Since they were fully booked the night before, we made a reservation for the following evening with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience fell short.
Once seated, it took a while for the waiter to bring menus and take our order, even though tables that arrived later were served first. The restaurant is small, so it was easy to notice the service style—especially the overly familiar and pushy behavior of the waiter. His attempts at charm felt forced and insincere, bordering on uncomfortable. Constantly addressing guests as “chicos” (“guys” or “boys”) might be meant as friendly, but it came across as unprofessional. The upselling tactics, like pushing an aperitivo right away, didn’t help either. What made it even stranger is that we suspect the waiter is actually the owner—apparently some guy from Germany who opened this place on Gran Canaria. That might explain his exaggerated service style, but for us, it was just too much.
On the positive side, the food and drinks were decent—fresh and well-prepared—but great food alone doesn’t make a great dining experience. Since we didn’t feel comfortable, we can’t give more than 3 stars and won’t return.
If you’re looking for top-notch service and a delicious meal, we’d highly recommend the Greek restaurant next door instead. Our experience there was flawless and truly...
Read more1 star is too much for this place! Poor service from the start and unjustified attitude from the waiter throughout the visit. We had booked 3 days in advance to have to wait for our tables (we arrived on time) Then once sat we were ignored for at least 30 minutes before we could catch the waiter to ask for a menu let alone a drink. We were offered chilled or room temperature red wine to which we said room temperature, the waiter returned with a chilled one and said wait 20 minutes in an aggressive manner. I except this is a small place with a small team but their problem was they over subscribed covers and delivered an unacceptable service. What food we did get wasn't special and quite expensive for what it was. I'm also sure they have favored customers and don't think new customers bring new business, which is a very poor business model. I and the 11 other people in the group will never eat there again, they must be crazy to be happy to lose this amount of custom especially in...
Read moreThis review is easy to summarise.... EXCEPTIONAL !!!! Service was polite, perhaps a little slow, no, let's say "relaxed", but we're on holiday so who cares. Food was delicious and well worth the wait. I'm not one for starters but I tried the tomato soup. Oh my goodness - perfect. Main courses just as good so my wife and I are two very satisfied customers. We arrived early evening, just as well because the restaurant soon filled up. Having eaten there, we now know why !. Taking no chance of disappointment tonight though, we've already booked a table ! Eat here and enjoy ! UPDATE : 2nd visit (last night in Maspalomas)... Met with a polite and friendly welcome. We were led to the same table and waiter remembered our drinks from last night (nice touch 👍). Tomato soup again (couldn't resist it). We both decided on the special for the evening - tagliatelle with salmon and prawns in a dill sauce. What an excellent choice, it was absolutely delicious. I repeat.... Eat here...
