We have been regular guests for over a decade. Before and after the change of ownership in 2020. We were always extremely satisfied. Since 2022, however, we have had very mixed feelings and experiences and can only recommend the restaurant to a limited extent. The staff is friendly, committed, everything is clean and warmly furnished. The dishes themselves are freshly prepared and very delicious, as you would expect in an upscale class restaurant.
But there is now a lack of basics. They try to scale success to more tables and reduced sophistication. That doesn't work, the infrastructure isn't designed for it. The consequences: waiting times are too long, dishes often at most lukewarm, reduced quality. The amuse bouche has been downgraded to Philadelphia cheese in a spoon, for all dishes there is always the same side plate with fries, garlic pasta and dry salad and that simply doesn't fit half of the dishes on offer. Clearly more mass than class these days. The dessert menu is pretty standard (but strudel is delicious), desserts are simply nicely prepared, nothing more. The portions are now so small that we left the restaurant still hungry after 3 courses. The whole thing fluctuates enormously and subsides.
And: We would strongly advise against visiting the Christmas menu. We were there in 2022 and the main course didn't come even after 2 hours. Quite a few, like us, broke off and left, also because of the “entertainment”. A singer plus a drag queen sang Edith Piaf and Co. One can argue about that, but in any case accompanying music should accompany you, not dominate so loudly that you can't understand your own words. They apologized and vowed to improve. 2023 the same disaster, we and some of our neighboring tables left early. The host seems to love the performances, but 90% of his clientele don't. You have to accept that. Especially since all the dishes ordered were lukewarm to cold even with the reduced menu offered. We were never given more wine. What an accomplishment: spoil Christmas for your guests, let them leave hungry and demand money for it. We'll never come back there again for Christmas.
We still have lots of sympathy and will perhaps try again later, but we have been repeatedly disappointed lately and hope that Valentines finds the right path again as an...
Read moreIncredibly disappointing. Firstly, told to wait 10 minutes for a table whilst half the restaurant was empty and tables set. We asked to sit at the bar and they pointed us down, we walked and there was no reasturant bar there.
We ordered, €15 starter and €20 main. Starter awful, cold salad from a bag with added chicken, not fresh, and mango, tiny portion and not fully ripe.
Main was, for €20, a tiny portion of processed chicken and spinach in a dolmio pasta bake sauce from a bottle (that's what it tasted like). The portion was tiny, the taste was nonexistent, and when we told the manager, he was extremely rude to us.
We were very polite and just informed him we didn't feel happy with the quality of either meal. He told us no one else ever has any problem with them.
At this point we paid and left. We will never be back, and we recommend you avoid it. There is no reason for such high prices in gran canaria for such low quality, store...
Read moreWe went with a group of eight to eat at Valentine's. We were given a very friendly welcome. We were all given a welcome drink. After taking our order, we got our appetiser fairly quickly. This was fine. However, the carpaccio was not recommended. This was not seasoned and without sauce. The chicken with mango, on the other hand, is highly recommended. For the main course, for most of us, everything was fine. The meat was well cooked and nicely seasoned. However, the chicken with spinach was very dry and not well seasoned. Highly recommended, then, is the steak. Furthermore, the side dishes were on the meagre side. Per person, we had 4 fries and a spoonful of lettuce. In terms of price-quality, Valentina's is on the high side. Especially if you compare it with the...
