Soto Bar y Restaurante is a charming new spot set directly on the San Sebastián harbour. Instead of a standard à la carte menu, each main course (around €40) comes with a small set of appetisers, evoking the tasting-menu format you’d usually expect in Michelin-starred restaurants rather than at this price point. It makes the whole experience feel special without being overly formal.
On our visit, the appetisers included tuna skewers inspired by the classic gilda, a fresh tomato salad, croquetas, and whole fried shrimp—each well prepared and nicely presented. For mains, we had grilled squid with caramelised onions and hake with fried potatoes and a light cream sauce. Both were excellent, simple dishes prepared perfectly.
The service was friendly and attentive, with staff who spoke excellent English, and the setting is hard to beat: right on the harbour with views across La Concha beach.
