La Cervecería del Antiguo — Restaurant in San Sebastián

Ok, I'm a tourist. But I'm a food tourist who knows food. I only review if it is exceptional or terrible. This is my only review in San Sebastian and it is because it is beyond expectations (Casa Julien does not count as I do not consider Tolosa as San Sebastian, though other reviewers might). Everyone can review the "famous spots" in the Old Town, but this is a proper local gem serving excellent pintxos that would rival anything you find in the more touristic spots. Their tortellita de camerones are comparable to anything you can get in Cadiz, and the huevos rotos with a patata churros is a fun & delicious riff on a classic. These are just examples of a delicious, fun & considered menu. Truffle is a consistent feature. The house red wine was beyond expectations, especially for a cervaceria. THIS is where we had the best food during our one month stay in San Sebastián! We came back multiple times and every time it was as good, if not better, than the previous visit. They are masters at creating simple dishes with quality ingredients and creative pairings (i.e cod and pistachio, shrimp with black garlic and macadamia) that blow your mind. Incredible, attentive service (please tell the server from Gijon that we ended up visiting there on his recommendation and loved it!). Honestly the best place we have eaten so far!! Franco is the nicest guy - really attentive and friendly. Rosio was lovely also! We had scallop in truffle oil and veal cheek cannelloni first - absolutely divine. Then we had the best burgers we've had in ages. All we've eaten is pinxchos since we've been here in San Sebastian so it's made a welcome change. This place is off the beaten track and well worth the visit.
