I had high expectations for La Concepción in Segovia, but my visit was a complete disappointment. To start, the food was bland and uninspired. The supposed “signature dish,” a roasted pork belly, arrived with a soggy, rubbery skin instead of the crispy crackling you’d expect. The accompanying vegetables were overcooked to the point of being mush, and the sauce tasted like it came straight out of a can.

The service was equally abysmal. Our server seemed indifferent, bordering on rude, and acted as though we were inconveniencing them by being there. It took over 20 minutes just to get our drink order, and another 40 minutes for the food to arrive—even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy.

The portions were laughable. I ordered a main course, but the serving size would barely qualify as an appetizer. My partner’s meal wasn’t much better three small ravioli on a plate with a sad sprinkling of cheese.

And the prices? Outrageous. For two mains, a bottle of mediocre wine, and a shared dessert (which, by the way, was a rock hard slice of “homemade” cheesecake), we paid over €120. For that price, I’d expect Michelin-star quality, not what felt like a reheated meal from a chain restaurant.

Save your money and your time there are far better dining options in Segovia that don’t rely on inflated prices and a reputation that is clearly undeserved. Avoid La Concepción...

During our visit, we were drawn in by the charming setting after exploring the nearby cathedral. I opted for the Pipito Bocodillo dish, which was a delightful combination of flavours complemented the warm, freshly baked bread. The steak meat was cooked to perfection, tender, and juicy. My uncle savoured the mixto sandwich, which he thoroughly enjoyed. As we dined, I indulged in two delicious cappuccinos, all while taking in the picturesque views.

📖 Un restaurante en plena plaza mayor de Segovia. Con una gran terraza y unas vistas estupendas a la catedral. Una atención increíble y todo un disfrute el visitarles.

🍛 Primer plato 🍲 ➡️ 2 / 3 ✔️ Risotto de setas ✔️ Judiones con oreja 📝 Al no haber entrantes en el menú, consideraremos los primeros cómo tal. Y la verdad que no defraudan, unos platos llenos de sabor tradicional. Los judiones estaban ricos pero nada en especial. A destacar el risotto el cual gusto incluso a gente que no le gusta (doy fé).

🍗 Segundo Plato 🍖 2 / 4 ✔️Cordero con patatas ✔️ Entrecot de ternera 📝 Los principales, o segundos, estuvieron muy adecuados y ricos. El entrecot es verdad que era muy normalito a pesar de la pinta que tiene. En cuanto al cordero (uno de los platos estrella), el sabor era estupendo y nos mereció mucho la pena. Su gran pero fue que alguno parecía un poco chicloso y que las patatas vinieron frías, lo cual es un detalle a cuidar.

🍰 Postres 🍨 1 / 3 ✔️ Tarta de queso 📝 Una tarta de queso sobre base de hojaldre con topping de mermelada de albaricoque, correcta sin más pero echamos en falta un sabor dulzón, ese contraste con la galleta y un topping con algo de sabor ya que el postre en si era muy plano.

NOTA FINAL: 5️⃣ ✅ El sitio merece la pena, estaba hasta la bandera y puede ser que eso le hiciese perder puntos por los detalles. Pero se nota que es un restaurante clásico con sabores tradicionales que saben tratar bien la materia y eso lo demuestran en unos platos muy ricos. Siempre hay margen de mejora, quizás no elegimos lo más correcto, pero aún así nos gustó mucho visitarles y disfrutamos muchísimo de la comida.
