Restaurante La Antojería - Felipe II — Restaurant in Seville

I liked the place and the service was alright. The waiters were friendly, although with some gaps in their training. You can tell they hire students or youngsters in search of their first job. Their way of serving wine or their scarce knowledge of the menu and the dishes on it do tell the tale. The place is fine and with modern decoration. Plenty of space to sit comfortably without worrying about hitting the person behind's chair. That is good. The dishes were irregularly achieved. A decent risotto, fine patatas bravas with real potatoes, and an extra of mayonnaise that does not match the original recipe, but they were actual fried potatoes and not the stuff you get off a packet. Cod was still swimming not out of freshness but because of the generous sauce it was bathing in and still salty; just edible. A surprising "vegetable wok" that was actually what we would normally call "sofrito de tomate", i.e. fried tomato, onion and pepper chunks. It is like getting the sauce without the actual dish. Where are my fried eggs and chips? The difference is that it had not been all mashed into a plain sauce and one single piece of asparagus helplessly tried to make a difference. The price was fine for the quality, regardless of how relative this may be. So all in all, I would go for a 3.5 out of 5. I would give it zero stars if I could. Similar to most restaurants in Spain, they bring out bread without answering, so we checked the menu to see whether any sort of notification was on the menu (typically 0,50 por servicios or something similar). Not finding anything, and being hungry, we ate the bread with our meal. Imagine our surprise then when a 0,90 charge per person was added to the bill under “cubierto”, which literally means covered. We asked about the extra charge and were informed that it was for the “extras” (the bread) and told it was on the menu. We searched on the menu, and it took some time to find it as it was between vermouth ‘speziale’ and café under the bebidas section. I know that bringing the bread out to the table without it being requested is a cultural difference, and I know that some places charge for it, especially in Sevilla (although 0,90 is a large amount to ask for two small rolls when an entire baguette is 0,20 at any grocery store), it is sleazy and a poor business practice to hide it under a random coverall term in the middle of the drinks section. Avoid this place at all costs unless you think such a slimy...

Buenas, voy a contar la que ha sido y será mi unica experiencia en La Antojeria. Por partes;

Llegamos 6 personas y un carrito de bebé a eso de mas 20:45. Lo cual está casi vacio, solamente dos mesas con 3 o 4 personas. Empezamos a pedir cervezas, en donde ya se equivocan y en lugar de traer 3 cruzcampo y 1 Heineken. Traen 4 cruzcampos. Me dicen que son todas de tirador, y que una de ella es la Heineken... (adivina ahora cual). Nos ponen al lado del baño, baño que cada vez que se habria la puerta daba un poco de grima, por llamarlo de alguna manera, por como olia. Creo que un establecimiento de estas caracteristicas, si tienen un baño con la puerta, justo para el salon deberían preocuparse de su limpieza y edor. Empezamos a pedir para tapear para el medio. Ensaladilla y patatas bravas. De momento inmpecable. Tapas muy buenas, elaboradas y servidas con cierta rapidez. Antes de terminarnos los entrantes pedimos una tapa para cada un@ de los seis. 2 de lagrimitas que salen de cocina con cierta rapidez y un poco mas tarde la hamburguesita de buey. El bar se empieza a llenar, pero nuestras comandas estuvieron pedidas al mismo momento. A eso que llega el wok de verduras, cuarta tapa de seis. Pedimos otra ronda de bebidas... Se acaban las lagrimitas, me acabo la hamburguesa y reclamamos los bastoncillos de berenjenas y bacalao. Nos dicen que salen en breve. Se termina el wok y ya nos quejamos un poco con mas insistencia al camarero. Nos contesta que las comandas las mete por orden de pedido y habia mucha gente. Respuesta que no nos convence ya que nuestras 6 comandas se pidieron a la vez. No contento con esto, el camarero medio molesto, (puedo estar equivocao pero fue mi impresión) se mete en la cocina y a los 2 minutos saca el bacalao. Ya habiamos terminado todos de comer, los platos recogidos las cervezas casi gastadas... se termina el bacalao y las berenjenas sin pelar... Bueno, el hambre ya desaparece y pedimos la cuenta sin bastoncillos. En ese momento aparecen las berenjenas, la cual le decimos que las retire... En fin. Un caos de organización, de cocina y una pena que este 《capricho nuevo》 como lo llaman algunos diarios de la ciudad me deje este mal sabor de boca, nunca volveré. Ah! Se me olvidaba. Me hace mucha gracia los establecimientos (y este lo es) que cuando pagamos una cuenta de 64€ y pagamos 65€, nos devuelvan el euro en: moneda de 50ctmos, moneda de 20ctmos y 3 monedas de 10ctmos... sospechoso? A mi me da que pensar. Evidentemente me guardé toda...
