My friend and I arrived for a beer around 11 PM on Saturday. The woman at the bar, who I understand to be a manager, told us sitting at the bar was our only option, and while we were sitting and finishing our conversation, she persistently urged us to order drinks. I told her we would have a beer, and she gave us two options, one of which we had never tried before. I asked if we could taste that one before ordering it. She rudely and defiantly replied, "There’s no tasting here; both are beers."
Never in Spain or any other country have I been told that I can't taste a beer before ordering it. If she was going to say that both options were simply beers, then why offer two choices in the first place?
After she left, the next bartender was incredibly kind and friendly.
I don’t understand how someone in charge of maintaining a business can treat customers this way, regardless of how long they’ve been working. It's not our fault if she was tired and/or wanted to leave.
One thing is certain: we won’t be going back, and I will be telling my friends to avoid this place. This management doesn’t represent Spanish hospitality. If you want to feel welcomed, I suggest...
Read moreCame here for Tapa Tapa with my wife for their special tapa event. While my wife was ordering at the bar, I went to grab a table, not realizing that we couldn't sit outside. Before my wife could tell me, the manager (I assume he was. A middle aged-man with glasses) overheard and became extremely aggressive and verbally abusive towards me in both Catalan and Spanish, throwing utensils where I was sitting and even causing me to accidentally spill my drink on myself. He stood there yelling at me while I cleaned myself off. I quickly went inside to tell my wife, he chased after me and started yelling at me for leaving a water ring on the paper placemat. I've never felt so unsafe in Sitges let alone a dining establishment. It's unfortunate because we used to love Bar Tomeu and live in Sitges. It's not okay for anyone, regardless of how busy the staff might be or that I accidentally sat in a reserved table, to be treated in such a manner. I strongly urge the owner to take steps to ensure that no customer has to endure such a traumatizing experience. I cannot recommend this establishment...
Read moreReally strange experience last night. I arrived as a solo diner, ordered the goats cheese salad and chicken skewers. Was told they were sold out of chicken. Ok, no big deal.
My salad arrived and I asked if I could order the potatas bravas. No problem.
The restaurant was fairly busy as a couple small groups showed up so when there was a wait for the Bravas, I just waited patiently.
A man came over and cleared my salad bowl and asked if I was finished. I advised I wasn’t.
Maybe 15 minutes later, still waiting for the food I ordered, I was presented with the bill and told I had to leave as they needed to change over the table…
I looked at the bill and saw I was charged for the Bravas and explained I was still waiting for the food.
The same man just took it off the bill and reprinted. No apology. Nothing.
Ok. In the 10 years I’ve been visiting this beautiful seaside village and the dozens of times to this restaurant, I’ve never experienced anything like this.
Very bizarre and very out of character...
