Mixed Experience at Goiko - Promotions Needs Clarity - communications training needed for wait staff

⭐⭐ (2 stars)

My recent experience at Goiko on Calle La Paz 9, Valencia, left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. Despite their intriguing "Friends with Benefits" gimmick, which promised something extra, the overall dining experience fell short of expectations.

Upon arriving for lunch, I had made reservations for our party online and initially opted for outdoor seating. Unfortunately, the sun's intense heat made it unbearable, and we requested a move indoors. After a brief wait (less than 5 minutes), we finally secured a table indoors. However, our enthusiasm quickly turned to dismay as we spotted multiple baby cockroaches scurrying on the walls and floor. This concerning sight raised doubts about the restaurant's cleanliness and hygiene.

While the food itself was passable for a burger joint, it didn't stand out as exceptional. The burger offered a decent flavor, but what added to our disappointment was the lack of communication from the waiter regarding certain charges. At the time of taking our order, the waiter simply asked what kind of fries we preferred, sweet potato or regular. The idea of any additional charge for the sweet potato fries upgrade was not mentioned during the ordering process. It was only upon receiving the bill that we realized an extra cost of 1.40 euros was added for the sweet potato fries.

Moreover, our dissatisfaction continued when we opted for the menu del dia. Unlike other places where the staff usually inquire about menu choices and any potential extra charges, we weren't asked about our preferences. As a result, we assumed that the Te Goiko Limon we ordered was part of the menu, mistakenly calling it limonada. To our dismay, when the bill arrived, we discovered an additional charge of 3.90 euros per glass of syrupy sweet slushly dirnks, which included the mango flavor I chose.

Furthermore, I had requested some lettuce to be added to my burger, not realizing that it would cost an additional 90 cents. The lettuce that was served was only a small portion and appeared wilted, which was disappointing.

What exacerbated our disappointment was the lack of transparency and communication from the wait staff regarding these extras. Additionally, I noticed that a mineral water option was added to the menu del dia on our bill, but I didn't receive it.

As a Google Guide, I believe it is crucial for businesses to be transparent with their customers, especially when promoting enticing offers like "Friends with Benefits." Proper communication about additional charges and menu inclusions is essential to ensure a pleasant dining experience.

While Goiko has some positive aspects, including the decent burger and pleasant ambiance, improvements are needed in terms of cleanliness and staff training. By addressing these issues and enhancing transparency, Goiko can create a more enjoyable and satisfying experience for its patrons.

However, based on my recent visit, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend Goiko...

My family and I went to Goikos in Calle La Paz, Valencia, we were quickly sat as there were only 4 tables occupied. It took around 10 mins for the waitress to take our drink order- a bottle of water and two bottled beers. It took another 15 mins before the drinks were brought to us. She also took the order for the food which was two burgers and a Caesar salad. Our order was forgotten for nearly an hour. My husband could see the salad waiting on the counter inside but there were no burgers in sight. When we complained, the waitress brought out the salad( which had been on the counter for about half an hour) but no burgers. At this point we decided to leave as we did not like the service at all. The waitress was nice (young lady with pink hair) but the service was horrible. Truth be told they offered us the drinks on the house but this is not the point. Service is about delivering to the customer not trying to cover up bad service.

In a city like Valencia where there are top burger places, Goikos needs to really improve the service. Nobody is prepared to pay a lot of money for terrible service. Not going back...

nice place to eat a good burger, the inside has a nice american vibe, the menu is great with a lot of options and the possibility to add ingredients of your choice, if you are vegetarian or vegan and looking for a place where to eat a good burger Goiko is the answer, I’m vegetarian so I have tried many veggy burgers and the Goiko one is one of its kind the “fake chicken” is great, not the usual fast food patty full of chemicals, the bad thing is that we waited like 20 minutes for our burgers and we were the only clients in the restaurant… and also if they tell you to register on their website to get a free beverage, do it! we didn’t and we paid €3.40 for a single 250ml bottle of coke, the beverages aren’t on the menu so you can’t check the prices in advance, smart marketing strategy for sure.

The burger place is situated in the city centre near Plaza de la Reina. The atmosphere inside is really nice because of the nice people who work there and the design of the place. There is a decent variety of entradas/ensladas and they have AMAZING burgers. When we visited Goiko Grill we ordered the Menu of the Day which offered 1 burger of the day with potatoes and a drink for 11.5€. Everything was way above tasty and the portion was neither too big nor too small. As a whole, I can recommend Goiko Grill to anyone who wants an amazing burger with beef patty. My personal advice is to reserve a place in advance especially during lunch hours because it is packed then.
