I was disappointed with the offerings of the restaurant to be honest.
First of all is the loud music on arrival, given that the restaurant sits right underneath a venue presenting classical music and taking into account it's location one would think that more care would be shown about how the restaurant presents itself, but when I saw a group of women arriving in the silly parafernalia of a hen night my spirits sank (to be fair we were never disrupted, but we could have been, that's the point) from an already low of being received with very unpleasant loud music blasted quite noisily after having sat to Schubert's Winterreise, talk about a nasty contrast.
Anyway, so the restaurant isn't making an effort to relate to the venue above, fine, but the food was not very good, we had some ibérico meat dish from a cut that was very difficult to cut for 2 reasons: it had lots of tendons, but to make the matters worse the dish was served in a deep plate with a tiny hollow in the middle, most appropriate to serve soup than for meat that needs a good flat surface to be cut, we had to put the meat in the small plates intended for bread in order to manage to cut it to eat.
Once cut the meat was lovely, but we hardly noticed after all the night's frustration.
The magnificent place in which the restaurant is located deserves more attention to detail, and perhaps to politely say no to hen or...
Read moreA truly wonderful location very friendly staff - quite laid back but I think that added to the relaxing atmosphere. Food delicious starters were very tasty (loved the corvina ceviche! And the pancetta bao dumpling a comfort to eat) with interesting flavours and portions were huge!
Good thing too as the mains very disappointing we ordered cod satay expecting it to be grilled with a thick peanuty satay sauce with vegetables and perhaps rice as an accompaniment. Was served a huge plate with a small hollow in the middle containing a small portion of cod with a few shredded daikon and a watery coconut peanut sauce tasty but difficult to eat with a knife and fork thankfully a waiter spotted and gave a spoon. I think when ordering the waiter should've suggested we might want to supplement with a rice dish.really was style over substance.
So still hungry we had dessert brownie and I had brioche bread and butter pudding both delicious.
Restaurant alas was quite empty but we had dined early - what really added to the evening was the music too listening to beautiful Bowie tunes with a cocktail in my hand was quite blissful! Music choice went a bit bizarre after guess it was a bit too throwback for me.
Such a unique setting really feel the restaurant should make the most of it and bigger...
Read moreAfter exploring the Artes and science area, we desided to go to restaurante Contrapunto for refreshments and invited our overseas guests. We waited at the entrance to be seated, but no one came, so we decided to sit down at one of many available tables. After waiting another 5 minutes a waitress came over and asked if we had reserved "this" table. We didn't. She told us that any front table were all reserved and that if we wanted to stay "we" had to find another table. This way of greeting customers was rather strange to us, especially since there were no reservation signson the table or any other table for that matter. We all look looked at each other, got up and left the place without a word. Because of highly unprofessional manners we were never offered the opportunity to taste the food and drinks. Given that there are so many amazing places in valencia, we will not return to Contrapunto, and surely not invite family or friends to the place. If a place is so unfriendly towards visitors it's not...
