I decided to visit Tobiko as the reviews overall seemed positive. However, after having dinner there I'm not sure I would recommend it to others.

The service overall was very nice and fast (though the staff was a lot nicer when speaking Spanish vs. when we had to switch to English). I also really enjoyed that they brought the food out in stages rather than cramming everything onto the table at once.

In regards to the food, the sushi is very mediocre. To me it felt like the idea was there but the implementation just didn't taste nice (best example would be the Mango Uramaki which just tastes like Sushi with mango syrup). Besides that, we've ordered Eel Maki which came without the usual unagi sauce and ended up being rather dry and loveless. I've tried a lot of different sushi restaurants and this just wasn't it.

Went for a birthday, we´re big sushi fans and wanted something special or fancier. Sadly it wasn´t really worth it. The rolls were a little small for what you get and everything just lacked that WOW factor that we were looking for, this is a shame when then facing an above average bill for average food.

Sushi wasn´t served with ginger and wasabi which was odd too, so just another little thing that prevented us from having a real sensation when eating.

Ich war Nachmittags im Tobiko in Valencia. Das japanische Restaurant liegt in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße und liegt zentrumsnah und fußläufig, in der Nähe zum Plaza de la Reina. Das Resaurant ist sauber und gemütlich eingerichtet. Ich war so ca. 15h der einzige Gast, später kamen noch 2 weiter Gäste ins Restaurant. Um nur um mal zu testen, wie das Essen schmeckt, bestellte ich mir ein Crujiente de Pato (7,90 €) und habe dazu ein Amstel Bier getrunken. Das Essen war echt lecker. Die Portion allerdings war wirklich nur eine kleine Vorspeise. Um satt zu werden, hätte ich noch mehr von den leckeren Vorspeisen essen müsse. Aber wir sind ja in Valencia, der Stadt der Tapas. Nur zur Info, der Durchmesser von dem Mais-Tortilla auf meinem Foto war ca. 12 cm, in etwa Handteller groß. Der Preis auf der Rechnung, war übrigens nicht der gleiche wie im Preisaushang vor der Tür, da standen 6,70 €. Die beiden Bedienungen waren sehr freundlich, hatten aber auch mit nur einem Gast, sicher keinen Stress. Das Restauant ist durchaus zu empfehlen, allerdings sollte man die Preise der Einzelkomponenten etwas im Auge behalten. Wer echt Hunger hat und mehr von den einzelnen Gerichte bestellt, bekommt sicher auch eine deutlich höhere Rechnung pro Person. Meine persönliche Meinung zum Preis- Leistungs- Verhältnis, preislich an der Obergrenze, aber dann angemessen, wenn ich unterstelle, dass alles frisch und händisch zubereitet ist.
