Tourist trap! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Disappointing experience! Unclear labeling, rude service, and poor food quality.
We visited this bakery in Valldemossa on Tuesday, April 29th, after watching a YouTube video that recommended it. We had walked by a couple of times and intentionally saved our visit for a calm morning to enjoy breakfast there, instead of an everyday hotel breakfast.
Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be very disappointing. I ordered an empanada labeled only as “carne” (meat), with no specification of the animal. Upon tasting it, I immediately realized a strong flavor and suspected it might be pork. Since I don’t eat pork, I kindly asked the attendant who had served us, and she told me that it was pork. I explained that I don’t eat it, and she offered (on her own initiative) to replace it. I appreciated that gesture very much and wasn’t expecting it when I went there to ask about which meat it was. However, when I returned to the counter with the plate, another older woman who also works there confronted me in a rude and very aggressive manner in front of a full bakery. She asked harshly “what I wanted” while looking at my plate, and I explained her colleague was going to make the exchange because it was pork meat and I didn’t know about that. She then snapped, “It says meat!” I replied, “Yes, but it doesn’t say it is pork, meat” and she rudely replied, “Meat is meat!” loud enough for everyone to hear. I felt deeply embarrassed, especially because the first attendant (who had kindly offered the replacement) remained silent and didn’t clarify the situation. In the end, I was forced to pay again for the new empanada, even though I couldn’t eat the first one, and the labeling was clearly misleading. My biggest mistake was to even buy another one. But I think I felt so shy that all I wanted was to end this unnecessary situation. To make things worse, the bakery was full of flies, and the second empanada (chicken) gave me a bad stomach discomfort (acid) for the rest of the day.
This morning at the hotel, I asked the breakfast staff about an empanada labeled “carne,” and they confirmed (as I expected) that “carne” generally refers to beef unless otherwise specified, especially in Spain. The hotel staff was surprised by my story in this place and confirmed that pork should always be clearly labeled.
Please be careful when visiting, specially if you have issues with certain foods and ingredients! Unclear labeling, poor hygiene, and VERY rude service ruined what was supposed to be a special moment.
You are dealing with people. Some people cannot eat pork for various reasons - including religious beliefs, health concerns, or simply personal preference. Treat people with respect, because we are the ones spending our money at your establishment (and in my case, you unfairly made money off me twice!).
Unfortunately, that bakery turned out to be a total tourist trap - overpriced, VERY POOR service, and not worth the hype...
Read moreWe came to this seemingly charming bakery on January 10, 2023 at around 17:00. There were two older women working behind the counter. From the start they were curt and rude to us, both in their words and facial expressions. The one who reluctantly served us appeared annoyed every time we asked a question about the fillings of the pastries.
My lactose-intolerant friend tried to order a coffee and requested for lactose-free milk, which they didn’t have. This seemed to annoy the lady behind the counter even more. He then decided not to order the coffee and went to use the restroom upstairs while we bought two pastries to take away.
As we waited for our friend at the door, I heard the cranky lady saying rather loudly to her colleagues, “Solo entran por el baño”, which means, “They only come in for the bathroom.” She probably thought that we are tourists and that we wouldn’t understand her.
Actually, I am Spanish and I live in Valencia. We ordered in Spanish. I’m not sure what her problem is. We were polite the entire time to her and her attitude was just disgusting and unwarranted. I understand that it must be really difficult to be stuck in a job you hate at THAT age, but spare the crankiness for your gossip session with your fellow cranky gal pals after work. It’s called the service and hospitality industry for a reason. She has no idea what service, hospitality or class means.
The absolute worst cafe with the grumpiest service in town. What a shame! This café has so much potential. It’s time to replace the personnel with people who know and love what...

Com us passeu!
