I visited King's steak bar last night with my partner and it was a very disappointing experience.
The only highlight was the starters. We had the oysters rockefeller and a seared scallop dish. These were very tasty but it was all downhill from here.
For mains we ordered the sole dish and the crispy belly pork.
While waiting for our mains we were given a lime sorbet as a palette cleanser, but this tasted like dish washing liquid as it was the synthetic lime cordial that had been used and not fresh lime.
After that palette cleansing disaster, our mains arrived. The fish did taste decent but there was absolutely no "wow" factor to this dish and that was a shame.
The pork was just a disgrace. The menu stated crispy pork belly and to anyone with a basic knowledge of food you would expect belly pork with a beautiful crackling but what I got was pork belly which was more fat than anything else and skin that was so rubbery it felt like I was biting into a piece of leather.
I notified the manager and sent the dish back and the response I got was "The chef can prepare you another portion but he can't guarantee the skin is crispy."
I think that it is very worrying that the chef of an establishment such as this cannot prepare pork belly with crackling.
Not having any trust in the food from this point onward I ordered a portion of parmesan truffle fries and this too sadly fell short. Store bought frozen french fries tossed with some parmesan and truffle oil. Hunger compelled me to eat it.
The ambience too was not up to mark. A trio playing live music which was too loud and also a vocalist trying to sing with a jazzy undertone and making an absolute mockery of the situation.
This place is by no means cheap but does not live up to the pricing at all.
All in all I was extremely disappointed and going by the reviews posted over the last month it is not just me that has had a bad experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to...
Read moreWe went this afternoon with my father who is quite unwell as he has been craving steak. When we got to the Kingsbury, the lovely lady at the front desk directed us to the King Steak Bar and we were informed that the restaurant opens only for dinner. However, the two gentlemen at the restaurant, Gerald and Mahinda immediately said they would be happy to make my father his steak if we could wait a bit. They and the staff at the Steak Bar went out of their way to make us feel welcome and offered exceptional service even though they were not open for the day. They even made a special plate of food for my 3 year old who requested chips and steak. The restaurant staff were very child friendly and made my kids feel like they were royalty.
My son enjoyed the angus burger and the Chicken with garlic was also quite juicy and flavourful. The rib eye steak was cooked to perfection and the fish was very fresh.
The staff at Kingsbury assisted my father while he was in the wheelchair and the ambience of the hotel was very warm and amplified Sri Lankan hospitality and service.
My only request is for Kingsbury to review your google page as it still shows a steak restaurant called The Grill and this is what we came looking for. We were delighted by the food and service at the King Steak Bar but this is not what came up in my Google search and we might have been very disappointed if not for these outstanding staff who went out of their way to accomodate us.
Thank you for making my dad's day and allowing us to make very special memories with him. We certainly...
Read moreMy wife and I recently came here to enjoy the 4-course steak dinner menu for 2. Our courses were:
Starter - House smoked salmon, rye toast. saffron and dill cream Soup - Porcini mushroom and Onion Soup Main Course - Grilled Ribeye Steak Truffle Butter Dessert - Bitter Chocolate and Orange Tart with Sea Salt
We enjoyed all of the courses and the only I wish I could change was getting more steak. The ribeye was around 5oz/150 grams and I wish I could have had a little more.
The restaurant itself is well appointed as an up market steakhouse/bar should. It featured classic leather upholstered chairs with booths by the outer perimeters for groups of all sizes. There was even a live band that really helped set a nice mood and they even played a live rendition of the "Game of Thrones" theme song!
Overall, we had a great time and the service that Gihan (Asst. Restaurant Manager) and his team provided was top notch. Can't wait...
