Overall Experience
Itâs rare that I give out a perfect score, but VI Family Restaurant at Astoria has earned it.
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ 5/5 â Highly Recommended. Iâll definitely be back soon to explore the rest of their menu.
After hearing about this restaurant for quite some time, we finally made it to their branch at Astoria in Colombo 3. Ironically, though we once lived just minutes away, it wasnât until moving out of Colombo that we finally stepped inside. And the verdict? Absolutely worth the wait. WE AI Family Restaurant impressed us with authentic flavors, hearty portions, and a price point that feels more than fair for the quality you receive. From start to finish, it was one of those rare dining experiences that I can confidently say deserves a full 5 out of 5 stars.
⸝ Starters: A Perfect Beginning
We started off with a trio of dumplings and wontons that immediately set the tone for the evening.
Pork Dumplings: These were little flavor bombsâjuicy pork encased in tender wrappers, bursting with richness. Paired with their signature Chinese chili oil (imported from China, as the staff proudly noted), each bite had that addictive kick of spice and depth that makes dumplings unforgettable.
Chicken Dumplings: Slightly lighter than the pork version, but just as satisfying. The filling was moist and flavorful, with seasoning that complemented rather than overpowered. Again, dipping them into the chili oil transformed them into something special.
Wontons in Soup: By default, the wontons come in a warm, flavorful broth that feels like pure comfort food. The skins were silky, the filling generous, and the soup tied everything together beautifully. For those who love crunch, you can also order them fried separatelyâsomething Iâll be trying next time.
⸝ Something Different: The Cheesy Beriberi
The name might suggest a tea, but what arrived at our table was more like a cheese-topped shakeâcreamy, indulgent, and slightly tangy. It was quirky, fun, and surprisingly delicious. My daughter especially loved it, and I can see whyâit had that dessert-like appeal that made it stand out among the savory dishes.
⸝ Mains: Where the Flavors Truly Shined
Beef Noodles: This was easily one of the best noodle dishes Iâve had in Colombo. The noodles were perfectly cookedâspringy and lightâtossed in a sauce that struck the ideal balance of sweet and spicy. The beef added richness, while the seasoning lifted the whole dish.
Shredded Pork with Rice and Vegetables: The undisputed highlight of the meal. The shredded pork came coated in a sauce that was equal parts sweet, tangy, and spicyâa flawless balance of flavors. Served alongside rice, vegetables, and a simple soup, it created a complete, deeply satisfying dish that I would return for again and again.
⸝
Final Thoughts WE AI Family Restaurant is more than just another addition to Colomboâs dining sceneâitâs a place that delivers on every promise of authentic flavor, portion generosity, and value for money. Every dish we tried had its own charm, and the little touchesâthe imported chili oil, the fun specialty drink, the balance in the seasoningâshowed real attention to detail.

Read moreNewly opened authentic Chinese restaurant running by Chinese, only one Sri Lankan person i notices working here. They have separate menu for locals and separate for Chinese peoples. in locals menu items are named in Chinese and English as well. So no dough about that. But the menu in the wall completely Chinese. Okay, foods. My opinion is if your really not in to authentic chinese cruising (like if you love "chinese dragon cafe" foods) this is not the right place for you. Because taste of the every foods items here i tested have feeling of authentic chinese cruisine. Quality of foods in here i can say, just okay! but, not the favorite though. I mean, im not blown away buy the tasting of foods, all just had a very lean flavour.
Portion sizes are okay, but compared to the images in menu of items reality is little different :D. So dont expect to see the exact item in front of you in the desk after ordered.
We ordered six(6) items Sea food chinese noodle - Rs:850.00 Fire chinese noodle - Rs:750.00 x 2 Fried sea food rice - Rs:800.00 Fried Veg and edd rice -Rs:500.00 Fried Spring Rolls - Ra:300.00 So,as you can see foods are no the the cheapest though. Our total bill came a cross 4000Lkr for 4 peoples. and gota bill full of chinese letter which cant read. Its good if you bring you mobile with google translate installed on it.
Theirs spring rolls are really good! But for one portion they only serve 3 spring rolls cut in half :3 In the lunch time and dinner time place get packed by chinese peoples. We havent try anything from chinese menu. Foods are okay! Not the quietest place when Chinese...
Read moreOh, where do I even begin with this disaster? I went to this so-called "restaurant" with the simple hope of enjoying a bubble tea. How naĂŻve of me. One of the cups had a lovely lipstick stain right on the rimâbecause apparently, personal hygiene isn't on their radar. Of course, I only noticed after I finished the drink, because why wouldnât I get to enjoy a nice surprise at the end, right?
Naturally, I told the waitress, fully expecting at least some semblance of customer service. What do I get in return? A pathetic, half-hearted âSorryâ and nothing else. No apology, no compensation, no offer of a new drinkâjust a total lack of care. Itâs almost impressive how they managed to make an issue so simple into a masterclass of incompetence.
Let me be crystal clear: I would never, ever recommend this place to anyone. Itâs absolutely disgusting that they would serve something with that level of neglect, and even more disgusting that they couldn't even be bothered to make it right. If you value basic standards, hygiene, or even a modicum of customer service, do yourself a favor and steer far, far away...
