Right, so this is how it started. I once checked in at around 00:00 AM having made a booking through an OTA. The gentleman who welcomed me was Mr. Lewis who was one of the most polite people I have met. He was very humble, welcoming and kind. Very hospitable too. He honestly made me feel like home.
As soon as I entered, I loved the way the hotel looked. It's very chic and simple. It's also lit up nicely. The staff at the ground floor were very welcoming and kind too. I entered and then as I mentioned Mr. Lewis did his perfect job. I was truly 'feeling' it! He was kind enough to give me a 'special' room that has a sea view on the first night.
He escorted me to my room and I loved the room. The room is pretty spacious. It has all amazing amenities. What I truly loved is the bathroom fittings. The 'Hansgrohe' bathroom fittings was top class especially the shower.
The beds were comfortable and it was amazing! Now, I had only booked for one night. The next day, I extended. And, I switched my room. One of the best parts is that I didn't feel like leaving because the staff were so kind to me and the next best part is that I booked it with breakfast. The breakfast was a buffet and it was good.
Now, as time passed - I kept extending. I came for 1 night and ended up staying for 10 nights because it felt like home. The staff were all like family. I used to wake up super late around late afternoon during my stay while I have booked it with breakfast. Of course, I missed my buffet. But, I usually just call them and they send me this large special breakfast called the 'Sofia Special Breakfast' to my room even though it's tough and inconvenient for them as it is lunch time.
They have the best mocktail menu at the bar. Honestly, highly recommended. The prices are really good too. Highly recommended to watch the sunset, have delicious drinks and have a good chat.
I know this sounds like a marketing review but it is not. Just a very very positive first hand experience. Despite the breakfasts, they gave me a very cool room. I call it my 'own space.' So, this room is in a private corner where I have my own walking space towards my room with a city plus a sea view which I overlook while having my breakfast. I truly enjoyed the interactions with the staff and the names I don't remember much.
The gym is equipped and has a very kind instructor who works there too. My friend who came to visit me loved the hotel and enjoyed it too. The staff were kind to him too even though he is not a guest there. There is an amazing swimming pool with a super cool view too.
The reception is amazing and their welcome tamarind drink is 'interesting'!. Even, the guests I met there were amazing! We were having electric conversations. Overall, best experience.
I really felt like home and loved it!
Thank you to all the staff. I thank all the staff, really even though I remember only a few names. I wanted to write this ever since I checked out. It's been a month since I checked out and I wanted to write a gigantic positive review filled with happiness and gratitude but making it ''gigantic'' and detailed made me postpone it.
Honorable mentions:- Mr. Lewis, Mr. Afraz, Mr. Charles, Mr. Sathish, Ms. Kumari,...
Read moreThe High Tea Buffet at Sofia City Hotel offers a luxurious and indulgent experience for those looking to enjoy a refined afternoon in a chic setting. Located in a central, easily accessible area, the hotel's ambiance is both elegant and comfortable, with a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere perfect for a leisurely afternoon with friends or colleagues.
The spread itself is impressive, showcasing a wide variety of both savory and sweet treats. The savory section features an assortment of finger sandwiches, including classic cucumber and smoked salmon, which are fresh and well-seasoned. The mini quiches and savory pastries are also delicious, with the right balance of flaky crust and rich fillings.
The sweet selection is the star of the show, however. From delicate scones served with clotted cream and jam to an array of beautifully crafted pastries, cakes, and tarts, there’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth. The scones, in particular, are a standout—warm, crumbly, and perfect with a dollop of cream. The selection of cakes, including rich chocolate mousse, fruit tarts, and éclairs, are all beautifully presented and offer a variety of textures and flavors to enjoy.
The tea selection is comprehensive, with a variety of blends to choose from, ranging from traditional English Breakfast to more exotic options like Earl Grey and herbal teas. The staff is attentive and ensures that your teacup is always full, and they are knowledgeable about the different teas they offer, making recommendations based on your preferences.
Service at Sofia City Hotel is generally excellent—staff are courteous, friendly, and quick to respond to any requests. The atmosphere is relaxed enough for a long, leisurely experience but not so formal that it feels stifling. The buffet is well-maintained, and the food is replenished regularly to ensure freshness.
One minor downside could be the price, as high tea at Sofia City Hotel is on the higher end, but the quality and variety of the offerings, combined with the setting and service, make it worth the splurge for a special occasion or a treat.
Overall, the High Tea Buffet at Sofia City Hotel is a delightful experience. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s a great spot to unwind and indulge in an afternoon of good food, excellent tea, and impeccable service. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a classic high tea experience in a...
Read moreFrom April 12th to 19th, my experience at Sofia Colombo was largely positive, with a few minor drawbacks.
Positive Points:
Impeccable Cleanliness: The rooms were exceptionally clean, ensuring a comfortable and hygienic stay throughout. Comfortable Accommodations: The beds exceeded expectations in terms of comfort, providing a restful sleep experience. Scenic Views: The location offered stunning views of both the road and the sea, adding to the overall ambiance of the stay. Convenient Location: Sofia Colombo’s prime location made it easily accessible and convenient for exploring the area. Breathtaking Rooftop Pool: The highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the rooftop pool area, which boasted breathtaking views and provided a serene environment for relaxation. Outstanding Staff: The staff, notably Jimi, Kumari, Smith, Tharushi, Lakmal, and Sandaru, and others (Sorry I have problem in memorizing names) all went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay, with their professionalism and willingness to assist shining through at every interaction.
Negative Points:
Limited Food Menu: For guests staying an extended period, the food menu may feel somewhat restrictive, with limited options available. Inconsistent Service: While the majority of the staff were exemplary, there were instances where newer staff members struggled to meet the established standards. Issues such as forgetting to bring multiple menus or failing to accommodate specific requests for food items detracted slightly from the overall experience (Many times we ask to bring the drinks with the food but not happening. Bread coming always the last. Many times, we asked to not put Chicken or beef ham on the food, but they are still putting it and we have to remove it)
General Information: Despite minor hiccups, my stay at Sofia Colombo was highly enjoyable, thanks in large part to the exceptional staff and the hotel’s pleasant surroundings. The consistently positive attitude of the staff members, coupled with the comfortable accommodations and picturesque views, made for a memorable experience.
I would gladly return to Sofia Colombo in the future and wholeheartedly recommend it to others seeking a delightful stay in the area.
Thank you, Sofia Colombo, for a...
