If you’re in Galle Fort and craving some refreshing, high-quality gelato, Pedlar’s Inn Gelato is the place to be! Nestled in the heart of the historic fort, this charming ice cream shop offers a delightful selection of gelato that is both flavorful and natural—without any artificial additives.
Ambiance & Location
The shop is located along the bustling streets of Galle Fort, making it a perfect stop after exploring the colonial-era architecture and the stunning views of the Indian Ocean. The cozy setup, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly staff make the experience even better.
Gelato Quality & Taste
The first thing I noticed was the rich, creamy texture and natural flavors of their gelato. Unlike many commercial ice creams, Pedlar’s Inn Gelato stays true to its ingredients, offering a healthy yet indulgent treat. They don’t add artificial flavors, ensuring that each scoop bursts with the authentic taste of fresh fruits, nuts, and other natural ingredients.
Some standout flavors include:
Mango – So fresh, it tastes like eating a chilled ripe mango.
Chocolate – Deep, rich, and satisfying for any chocolate lover.
Passion Fruit – A perfect balance of tangy and sweet.
Vanilla – Smooth, creamy, and made with real vanilla beans.
They also allow unlimited test spoons, which means you can sample as many flavors as you like before deciding. This is a huge plus, especially if you’re indecisive like me!
Service & Experience
The staff were super friendly and accommodating, always ready to recommend flavors based on your preference. Their patience in letting customers try different flavors before making a choice is truly appreciated.
Value for Money
While the prices are slightly on the higher side, the quality and authenticity of the gelato make it worth every rupee. You’re not just paying for ice cream—you’re paying for a genuine artisanal experience.

Read moreAwful customer service. Today me and 2 of my friends visited this place for some ice cream. We tried on some varieties and when we decided on what to order, a large group of people came into the shop. The owner's attention completely changed to the big numbers that came in and asked us to wait until that group finished ordering. It was ridiculous as we had to wait until about 20 people trying different flavours and finish with their order. The owner could have served us what we ordered as we were the first people to arrive there and we were ready to order. We had to stand there and wait like idiots. We then decided not to wait anymore and went to the Isle of Gelato, which is a wonderful little cream place a few meters from this place. The ice cream there actually tasted better than Pedlar's Inn. Very disappointed with the customer service at this place. Will not visit this...
Read moreAs racist as they can get! Here's why: I visited the shop with my wife, behind two white women. The white women were proactively pushed to try different flavours. The guy at the counter kept handing them spoon after spoon. I requested for a sample for pistachio and I got a curt response: you want one scoop or two scoops? I said I would like to try first. And the boy looked at me for few seconds before reluctantly handing spoon half filled with the gelato.
I ordered a scoop of coconut gelato and a scoop of hazelnut gelato; they both tasted below average.
So: racist employee with meh tasting product. Five stars for atmosphere because of Chaminda, the street singer who was performing in front of their shop with his guitar. Beautiful voice,...
