Blackbird is Gothenburg. The vibe, the crowd, the location, it’s all pretty much an essence of the spirit of Gothenburg. As a fully vegan pub, it’s highly regarded among the scene and it definitely is a safe space in that perspective. The food is hereby a mix of mainly Swedish pub classics. Your nuggets, cheese balls, fries, wraps and basically imitations of meat dishes with their self-made Seitan. Often with some sort of Asian influence like Hoisin or Miso - with rather mixed results.
But in all fairness, the food just is not for me. Generally the flavour profiles are off (acid-umami balance) and you need to bring good jaw muscles with you, cause everything is rather chewy and/or cooked beyond ready. Whether it’s Seitan, Tofu or the breading around, it all is very very done. The cheese balls are the highlight, but those could also use some minute less in the deep fryer.
So, all in all, the food is too heavy for my likings and nothing to come back to. The atmosphere is great though, the staff is nice and taking an extra step, and I can see myself having some drinks and a...
Read moreBlackbird was an absolute treat to visit during the day for lunch! Such an incredible vibe, the staff are wonderful, the decor is so cool and the atmosphere is cosy.
It wasn't super busy when we came in so we were able to work for a few hours on our laptops. I ordered the Curried Chicken sandwich/roll they had and it was truly delicious! For a dessert I had a purple/lavender cheesecake and it was honestly the most wonderful Vegan dessert I have ever consumed. I also had an incredible alcohol free cocktail that one of the bartenders said was a specialty of theirs.
The lunch menu is apparently a lot smaller than the dinner menu. We wanted to stay and check it out but it was a Friday so you definitely needed a reservation!
Very COVID-safe, amazing Vegan food. Blackbird is my new favourite place...
Read moreA small but cozy place with incredibly good food and a light punk vibe. I would say our night was the best restaurant experience I've ever had in terms of taste. I had the onion rings with "bacon" mayo as a starter and boeuf veguignon as main. The starter was top notch and the mayo really did taste like bacon. The meat substitute in the main course (seitan) was super tender and could easily have been mistaken for tender meat. The potatoes was perfectly cooked all through. I also had the Vegall (basically a chocolate cookie) as a desert and it was sugary sweet and had a great chocolate taste. The staff is very friendly and chatty if you...
