I've been here twice, with a year in between, and I am not impressed.
The first time I ordered the miso soup and got a full bowl with fresh noodles, an egg, fresh greens, mushroom and baked tomato. The noodles were a too thick and the broth not hot enough, so although the ingredients were good, it turned out to be a very lukewarm experience. Literally. The broth was too salty, so I had to leave quite a lot miso soup in the bowl after finishing the meal, which is a waste.
The second time, today, was worse. I've walked past plenty of times wondering if I should try my luck again, but alas, this was pure disappointment.
The only thing they did better was serving soup that was hot and not room temperature. I ordered the same, but got a worse deal. The miso soup was far too salty (not unlike myself at this depressing meal). The greens and mushroom were good, but the rest was a disaster.
There was barely any noodles in the bowl. I thought they'd forgotten the egg, but when I asked for it, they denied me. They said it wasn't part of the miso bowl, only the two other ramen soups on the menu, which are chicken and meat, I think. In my opinion, this is just ridiculous. When the vegetarian option is already so limited on ingredients, why would they eliminate the egg? And only replace it with one extra baked tomato? If it was to honour vegans, they could just leave it out for those orders - or at least offer to add on eggs for extra payment. I asked if I could pay extra to have an egg, but got a no. I thought about asking for more noodles once I realized there was even less now than the year before, but figured if they couldn't add a boiled egg to the soup, it'd probably be an insurmountable task to add more noodles.
Steer clear, go somewhere else to eat on campus. This was such a let down. You don't get enough for your money, just salty broth with a sprinkle of ingredients that barely produce enough calories to...
Read moreThe original pork ramen failed to impress, leaving me with an overall sense of disappointment.
The broth was unfortunately lacking in flavor, as the starchy taste from the boiled noodles seemed to overpower the dish.
The texture of the noodles was disappointingly clumpy and they lacked the desired separation, resulting in a less than ideal mouthfeel. The additional noodles we requested on the side were disappointingly clumped together, forming an unappetising mass that made it challenging to incorporate them into the dish without risking injury to one's hand.
The nori paper lacked the desired crispness and freshness, as it had already lost its texture and shape by the time it arrived at our table. While it may seem like a minor detail, this does have an impact on the overall presentation.
The chashu pork failed to deliver the expected smoky and charred notes.
The dish failed to live up to its price point, as it lacked the expected depth and complexity of flavors that one would typically associate with a bowl of Ramen...
Read moreFirst of all, the restaurant is very nice (clean, nicely decorated, etc.) and the staff very friendly and helpful. The problem is the soup they serve. You see, having lived in Japan for quite a while and having experienced Ramen restaurants across Japan, I felt extremely disappointed after trying this place. I'm surprised to read some of the other reviews ... "authentic Ramen"??? are you serious? The broth is weak and tasteless as anyone who had tried Ramen even at a Japanese airport will understand. With such a bad broth the rest is just history ... This is the essence of Ramen!!! I ordered the tonkotsu (or its Swedish counterpart) and it was such a fluffy soup. Guys! come on! where is the strong taste and the creamy texture of it?! Furthermore, there is no possibility to customize your serving (thickness of the broth, texture of the noodles or toppings). No offense, but cup noodles would be less...
