Atmosfär in Malmö offers a stylish and intimate dining room with leather seating, warm lighting and walls lined with bottles, creating the impression of a classic wine bistro. The setting is undeniably charming, but the food and service did not quite live up to the expectations created by the environment and prices.
I ordered the sirloin, which came in at 325 SEK. The portion was on the small side, particularly given that no sides were included. French fries had to be ordered separately for 75 SEK, which felt steep for what was essentially a small bowl of fries dusted with herb powder and served with a green aioli. The steak itself was well-cooked and flavorful, and the reduction sauce had depth, pairing nicely with the roasted carrots. Still, the balance between portion size, presentation, and cost felt uneven.
My wife had the halibut trout, served in a light, foamy broth with fresh herbs and topped with roe. The fish was cooked perfectly, with a crisp surface giving way to moist flesh, and the broth added a rich but airy note that worked well. However, even here the portion felt incomplete. The boiled new potatoes, which should have been a natural accompaniment, had to be ordered separately for another 70 SEK. They were nicely seasoned with cress, but the extra charge reinforced the sense that dishes were fragmented and priced more like à la carte add-ons than cohesive plates.
Dessert was another low point. I chose the chocolate mousse, which was advertised with caramelized hazelnuts but arrived instead with peanuts. Beyond the inconsistency with the menu, the mousse itself lacked intensity and left little impression. It was neither bad nor memorable—just bland, which is disappointing in a dish that should round off the evening. The icecream scope for 45sek came with no garnish.
Service added further frustration. Nobody asked how the food was during the meal, the cappuccinos we ordered came long after dessert was finished, and settling the bill took nearly half an hour despite the restaurant not being full. The staff were polite but inattentive, and the lack of rhythm in service interrupted what could have been a more enjoyable evening.
In the end, Atmosfär’s strengths are clear: the interior is welcoming, the wine list is extensive, and the kitchen shows it can deliver solid flavors and precise cooking. But the portion sizes, extra charges for basic sides, mismatched menu details, and slow service made the overall experience feel underwhelming. It is a place with potential, but on this visit, the execution did not match...
Read moreAmazing place! Was really impressed about the food, but it was the service that really made it next level. Food is really really good, not next level innovation like NOMA but just very good. The prices are 20-25% below what I believe that could charge (please don’t take this as advice 😜) making value some of the best I have experienced in Scandinavia. They made a mistake and our main reason as late by ~ 15-20 min. Which could make a dent in perception, but this is actually were they showed service level. They came with snacks to hold us over, filled up wine for free, a free glass of alcohol free bubbles when they realized my wife was pregnant, a free sharing dessert before our actual dessert. The comped dessert, strawberries with lemon sorbet and basil is to die for and you absolutely have to try it if they have it when you visit. We can all make mistakes, but it is how you deal with them that matters, they killed it imo. And no it was not about just getting free stuff, it was their attention to details, attitude, and way of communication that I really liked. I’ll take a bow and will absolutely be back....

However, the desert was a bit of a disappointment. My wife is gluten and milk protein intolerant, which I noted a day in advance when booking, and I specifically mentioned if something can be done about the desert.
The kitchen went to great lengths to accommodate main dishes, but for dessert it was a scoop of sorbet for her. Very bland, no decoration, no effort, something you can get in any store out of the box.
I fully understand it's complicated to accommodate the allergies, but this is what's needed to get a perfect review.
Coffee was lukewarm, served with cold oatmilk on the side, ruining the desert experience even further.
I'll finish by reiterating that even with this hiccup, we thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience, and again, the food was delicious, especially the pork cheek and the mushrooms. If you don't have allergies, I'm sure you will have a fantastic experience.
Service was top notch,...
