I had my best pakoras outside of India or London here! Highly recommend! The green mint chutney- spot on, suits all levels of spice tolerance! The tandoori chicken tikkas- Nice bite and balanced spice- however could do a bit more love (In terms of preserving juicyness) The Gobi65- Not a huge fan- came with a mustard seed tempering - which was bit of a strech and does not really honor the legacy of this "family" of indo-chinese starters, but this was a huge hit with my un-initiated western co-diners! The Biryani- Spot-on spice balance, flavorful & creamy raita - Recommend for spice-tolerant diners! Coming to the cocktails- The Nannari ones- the base syrup typically used has tons of sugar, also compounded by the strong flavor of Nannari itself- didn't really do the magic for me :( The chia seeds as garnish - I do hope it was in some sorta creative effort to offset the sweetness, but the mint (Which the very warm and super-friendly waitress warned me about) was sorely missed in the flavour profile. Not recommend without the mint :( The Nannari cocktail with milk- was better put together, enjoyable with the starter What I actually recommend is the Brooklyn IPA on the contrary! Perfect fit for the vibe, menu and setting of the restaurant! The seating could do with a bit of attention to comfort- the tables were shaky and bit too tight with leg room and wiggle room Having said all of this, my definite stand-out appreciation goes all out to our waitress!! She was amazing, friendly and stand-out attentive to our requests! I will go back over and over again for the pakoras and biryani and much more hopefully! Must-try hangout...
Read moreTwo days ago, I left a glowing review for this restaurant, as it had always been our go-to for Indian cuisine. However, after today's visit, I'm deeply disappointed and questioning my loyalty. The way a waitress treated me for not being able to attend a previous booking was completely unacceptable. I explained that I had mistakenly made a reservation two days ago and couldn't update them in time, but instead of understanding, she expressed her frustration in front of my friends.
This experience has made me reconsider ever returning. I had heard about this waitress's attitude, but today I witnessed it firsthand. When we leave positive feedback, she seems pleased, but when we point out issues with the food, it's treated as if we're in the wrong. If you're unfamiliar with basic hospitality, perhaps it's time to learn. Sadly, this will likely be my last visit, and my friends and I feel the same.
Additionally, when I was unable to take a call because I was busy with a client meeting, I received multiple calls from different numbers. After I messaged back explaining I couldn’t answer at the moment, you'd think common sense would dictate that I was tied up. But no, instead, they persisted, completely ignoring the fact that I was busy. People like her need to first learn basic manners of hospitality before treating...
Read moreBeyond Smak has always been our go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine. The food and portion sizes have consistently met our expectations, and we've always enjoyed our visits. However, during our recent visit, we had an unexpected experience with a waitress who had been very hospitable on our first three visits.
She seemed upset with us for canceling a prior booking at FORK, which we had mistakenly made for the wrong date and were unable to inform the restaurant in advance. While we understand that cancellations can be frustrating, we were surprised by the way she questioned us about it. This made us wonder if she would have reacted the same way to other customers.
As this was a farewell gathering for a lovely couple, we wanted to enjoy the evening without any discomfort. While we completely understand her perspective, the way it was handled felt unnecessary. That said, she did apologize before we left, which we appreciated. However, this experience has left a lasting impression on our group of 12, and it will certainly come to mind if we consider visiting Beyond Smak again. I have always recommended this restaurant to many, but after this experience, I can no longer endorse it for its...
