If you ever come near this place, run the other way. I’ve once accidentally swallowed a bug and even that tasted better than whatever we were served that day. After a long trip and walk around trying to find something eatable we came across this place, which looked nice enough. The menu was poor but we all found something that we liked out of the 4 options they had. We really should’ve left right after the passive aggressive waitress sat us down right next to the workers drilling the street. The schnitzel wasn’t terrible but whatever sauce they drowned it in was too buttery, the potatoes were uncooked and the onions were burned. How did they manage to mix up so many horribly made ingredients to make one awful meal? Pure talent. The rest of the group had the same luck with their meals. One ordered fish and it came as a sort of fried ball of mashed fish mixed with something else that we couldn’t decipher and it was too salty to even try to finish it. Maybe this is just the way Swedish people like their food, but if you’re a tourist who wants to actually eat whatever (expensive) dish you order: STAY AWAY. The passive aggressive waitress also stood next to us watching us as we paid. Seems to be the way they press you to leave a tip for their bad service.

I first came to Portal more than 5 years ago, not so long after their opening and I was amazed. I can say that it only got better. Delicious food, friendly staff and great ambience. I went for char as the main dish and not only fish was good but also the accompanying vegetables and sauces make the taste elevated. The people in my table also tried ling fish, wild venison and traditional kroppkaka and everyone was highly satisfied with their dishes. As desert, I ordered bavaroise with three kinds of apple and a warm almond syrup. I was afraid if it would be heavy with different syrups but that was not the case at all. Not only it was delicious, it also looked nice with elegant cut thin slices of apple. The high quality overall are reflected on relatively prices as well but it was worth for it. Already looking for the next occasion to visit Portal.

Lunch We both had an excellent Schnitzel, perfectly crusted and light and finished with dessert, a great cappuccino and an interesting rulltårta, small but so good. And excellent service from attentive and knowledgeable waiter. Absolutely five star! BUT with a bill of 650:-, excluding the tip, I was pretty surprised to be told to leave, by the head waiter or restaurant mgr, since there were other guests coming in. Especially surprised since there were tables that had been there longer than us. Was it because there were no men at our table or that one of us was a person of color? Idk, just strange.

Summary: Did not reach our expectations.

Visited portal Saturday evening. It seemed quite busy with only a few seats available. We started out with drinks where there were a few wines or beers to pick from, but the selection of cocktails and alcohol free alternatives was really slim. Kind of a surprise compared to the rest of Stockholms restaurants.

We tried out some different courses and the average score was 3 out of 5. The food was below average to ok. The Lowe stew was ok, but no real flavor that stood out. The cusk was dry and overcooked. Today's game was ok when it came to flavor but a bit chewy.

The service was ok, but a bit confused. Sometimes the service felt obtrusive and at other times not present.

All in all, for the above average price compared to the food and service I would say it is a...
